351 SVO in a 66??
I was curious if anyone out there knew much about the 351 SVO blocks. I have just recenlty learned about SVO blocks, and want to know more about them. I own a '66 coupe, and want to do a 351 swap. I know a 351W will fit in a 66 with no major modifications. I was wondering if the same was true with a SVO block. Also I am looking at backing it up with a T5, Tremec, or T-56. How difficult would that be with a SVO block? Also, what good internal combos work great with a SVO (crank, rods, pistons, cam, etc, etc, etc.)

SVO
First, you'd want a stout trans behind something like that - a T-5 definitely not.
check these sites for SVO info: http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...6&cgrfnbr=2256 (for ford crate engines & assemblies & blocks) http://www.oemfordparts.com/lineindex.asp?LineID=1 (also for engines/blocks/parts) http://www.FORDPARTSNETWORK.COM/ for good discounts on gen Ford parts the SVO block is hi end strength & cost, for heavy duty racing, probably overkill for anything else. Check out the 351 Sportsman blocks, careful, not the reman but the newsly out 351 Sportsman. Otherwise, even a good 94-up truck 351W is plenty sturdy for hot street and is a roller block. |
will it fit?
I appreciate the links. They are very usefull. By the way you talk, it sounds like it will fit just was well as a 351W, but I just wanted to clarify that if anyone knows, or get a specific statement. I'm not looking to hack on the shock towers to make it fit. I want to leave as much alone as possible, just to keep it as original as I can.

Why not stroke a 302 out to 331 or 347 inches, and use the B10 block. Its between the stock block and the R302. With 11.00/1 compression it will make plenty of power. Get set up with a stroker kit from someone like www.jdsperformance.com, select a mild roller cam, and your set.

it will fit?
The SVO block is actually shorter than the windsor by about 0.3" or so, just check in a ford "svo" catalog. If the taller blocks fit then I don't see a reason why the shorter one wouldn't.
