ECM.....89-93 V.S. 94-UP?

they have less agressive fuel and timing tables

the major thing thats bad about them is they pull major timing upon shifting. They did this to get a little longer life out of the
T-5's

So can you just swap in a 93 A9L into a 1994 car? and eliminate the timing retard? I figure it's more involved than that.

No, the 94/95's have different plugs on them than the 93/downs.

There is a kit called a PIH (Performance Improvement Harness), I believe it is made by Pro-M. But it comes with an early model computer and the harness. However you have to get a new mass air meter, and aftermarket ignition i belive to use this kit. And the kit by itself is pretty expensive, can't remember exactly but i think it's over 500, so just get an FRPP extender it improves the timing and fuel curves and takes away the timing retard after the shift, and it plugs into the computer just like a chip. They're out of production now, so you better get one before they're all gone.......
