clutch cable
I'm ready to replace my clutch cable and quadrant. I see there are assemblies that are firewall adjustable.( I intend to get an extra cable in case one breaks and it's then absolet)
Anyone have an assembly they've used that they think is the best? '87 5.0, GT, 5 Spd. stock. First in a long list of things to do...<g> Next: MASS air conversion...best? |
i got the adjustable cable/quadrant from D&D and its great. the quadrant is an aluminum Steeda unit. I do wish i would have gotten a firewall adjuster at the same time. It makes it alot easier to adjust (instead of crawling under the car). So i'd get one if I were you.
About your list of things to do. Mass air conversion is wayyy down the road for you. Speed density will work fine with mods (with proper tuning) and you could run 12's before you should switch over to mass air. I converted mine because i found a meter and computer cheap, so i said what the hell. I'd go with gears and exhaust first (after a full tune up ofcourse). You'll notice a huge gain over stock with just this. But soon after, you'll want more. you could go with some underdrive pulleys, subframes to stiffen her up a little, 65mm TB, 1.7RR's, with speed density its always nice to have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator for future tuning use. This'll get you started spendin that dough. :D good luck |
I'd go with the Steeda quadrant, clutch cable, and firewall adjustment. They've got a package deal for $114 for all three.

My car shifts great with just a new clutch cable replacing the stretched out original. The catch was my quadrant is not broken and adjusted perfetly after replacing the clutch and cable. Lots of guys have had the plastic quadrant break, I decided to wait till my stock quadrant breaks before putting an adjustable one in. I also went with the FMS A-302 clutch to avoid the requirment of an aftermarket quadrant.

speed density-mass air
Dazed and confused. about speed-density.
I've gotten the impression from more than one person, that theres not much you can do to a 302, without messing things up...unless you go to mass-air. Apparently wrong. If I do a .030 rebuild, a mild street cam, 65mm throttle body, and a better than stock header system...can you tune the changes with speed-density or do you need to have mass-air? At what point is mass-air required.? If so: Any print out there on the subject of tuning with speed-density systems? What can, and should be done, and how? I just want a good street moto that'll take alot to pass....<g> The bucks saved keeping speed density will go towards a better rebuild .... |
I have been using the steeda quadrant, cable, and firewall adjuster for about six months now. I love the convenience of the firewall adjuster. I haven't had any problems, and I'd buy the same setup again.

Just installed the Steeda firewall adj. with steeda adj. cable and double hook quad. The setup made my clutch pedal feel so much better. However, there is something I feel is a concern about switching the quadrant. Check my post http://forums.mustangworks.com/showt...threadid=16865 form ore info.
