What master cylinder do I need?
 

OK I've heard about this great deal, that you can get the calipers from a 86-91 Lincoln Mark VII and use them without modification on a Fox Mustang. Just need to get pads, and you can optionally add better rotors (like Powerslots which I'll be doing), lines (something stainless steel), and caliper bushings (Steeda has these...). What about a master cylinder? The 73mm calipers have approx. 48% more area than the stock 60mm's, so that will mean 48% more pedal travel, right? Is there a master cylinder I can use with stock rear drums and this setup? Does the Lincoln one work (they have rear discs)? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not positive on this, but I think the one you want is an '87 Lincoln master cylinder. As far as working with rear drums, as long as you retain the proportioning valve, you should be fine.

That's a good site and I was coming in here to post the same link, but it seems to be down at the moment. Anyway, all the information you will ever need to upgrade your brakes can be found there.

If you really want a good upgrade for the front go with the SN95 spindles and rotors. You'll have to convert to 5-lug, but I've been talking to the guy that made that web site and he's given me some very good information.

I noticed a difference with the 73mm SVO calipers (same as Lincoln Mark VII's) and Power Stop cross drilled rotors, but not a lot, but consider it to be a worthwhile mod. I also made some slide pin bushings at work instead of buying the Steeda ones.

I do know that with just the addition of the front 73mm calipers you can use the stock master cylinder if you convert it to a 2 port instead of 3. You won't need a proportioning valve unless you convert to rear discs.

There's a good book you can get from Holcomb, Jegs, and Summit called "Mustang Performance Handbook 2". It has a lot of info on upgrading the brakes, suspension, etc. Worth the money!

Thanks Kevin! That's some very useful info. I was looking for that site but all I found was a dead @Home link. Can use the 94-98 GT/V6 master cylinders apparently which is supposed to work well. I will probably also upgrade the lines to SS, and get better pads/linings all around. Hopefully it will live up to my go-carting on the street :)

I went with the Performance Friction pads. They make a Z rated pad, but I was unable to find them for the SVO calipers. Hawk makes good ones too, and I think Matt has a couple suggestion on that site.
