those pesky window regulators

hey guys!! this new forum looks great!! i was a bit worried for a while though as i couldn't get in.....mustang withdrawls! :p
so anyways i have a question about those window regulators. i have got replacements for the two side little windows, and i am wondering if there are any hints on putting them in without taking my car apart too much! :D
thankyou in advance

You shouldn't have to remove too much stuff to get to them. If your car is the same set up as the 65-67 series then all you'll have to take out is the back seat bench, handles, and quarter trim panel. You may need to loosen the door jamb scuff molding to get the qarter trim panel out too.

Also, you may need to remove (or just loosen) the rear-most section of the window run channel to get the old regulator out and the new one in.

All in all, no big deal. Don't forget to grease 'em up before you put them in, it's hard to do it afterwards.

Good Luck

I also have a 68 coupe I'm restoring. My problem with the quarter windows is I've discovered I have one window stop missing on the window frame, and another window stop on the channel which is broken off. Any ideas where I can get replacements? Tried most all the mail order companies with no success.

Are there any auto scrap yards in your area? The chances are pretty good that they may have a toasted 68 coupe in stock. Window stops are not items that are usually highly saught after...so chances are the parts car will have a couple of decent ones.

That was my next option. Will start looking soon but not too confident I'll find one at a junkyard - they're usually snatched up pretty quick for parts. Last option I guess is to attempt myself or have a machine shop make me one.

hiya, thanks for your help frankenstang, i am attempting it on sunday , grease gun in hand! :p
and hey kisner, frank is right, the junkyards really are the best place to find treasures. in sacramento they even have a yard just for mustangs!! its like heaven and hell mixed into one, i hate seeing all those sad cars piled together, but i love the parts! :)
good luck on your 'treasure hunt' !
