need help with c4 bell housing

well i tried to install my c4 tonite. but the stall converter bolts would not go through the bolt holes on the flexplate.i bought the 78 c4 at the bone yard and had it rebuild(dont know what it came out of). i put the bell that was on it back on the tranny. do i have the wrong bell. i have a 164 tooth flex plate with a 10 inch stall.it looked like i needed another 3/4 to a 1 inch for the bolt to tighten down properly(yes it was installed right both down pins in there holes) . the bell has fp-e2 and other numbers on it.plese help me asap befor i hang myself!!!!!!

Sounds to me like the bell housing isn't the correct one or the torque convertor. Does the bell housing bolt up to the block correctly? When the tranny was rebuilt did they replace the crank pilot?

I am not sure I understand the question.

Did it have a t-5 in it before?

If so did you remove the pilot barring?

If not that is your problem.
