Mustang parts specialties, are they any good
Well I striped out the threads on my oil pan (long story). If the shop can't fix them I'll need a new oil pan. Mustang Parts Specialtires has used ones for $50.00. Does anyone here know about the quality of their used product or their customer service.

tireburner163, you can re-tap the hole and get a slighty larger bolt with a washer it's better than buying a oil pan , we do it at work all the time, just as long as the new bolt is the same length. it work's use a plastic or cork type washer, i had to do it on my old 69 just get a magnet and try to get any metal shavings out of the hole. good luck.

See this is what happened. I got a oversized bolt that was suppost to tap it self, but it striped out too. Then we looked in the hole and you could see where the original threads had been striped out and replaced by a helie core(the replacement threads you often find in remanufactered alternators). When I tried the self taping bolt, peices of thread were coming out of the hole(like a big spiral). So I bought another self typing bolt and now it won't even thread in. If I can find a tap I will try to tap it.

ok i didnt know that you are probably screwed then, maybe check a junkyard for a good used pan, just a thought, good luck.

I have gone through MPS for many years, and have never had a problem with them. I think their customer service is great and the parts came quick! Good luck! :)

hey, are you talking about the threads for the drain plug(s)?
if not, the only other bolts on the pan would be the ones to attach it to the block which wouldnt be fixed by getting a new pan so this must not be what your talking about :) is this on your 2.3 or a 5.0 that your building or something? My advice is to tap it and get loc-tite a short bolt in there. Then get one of those tranny pain drain plug kits that lets you install a drain plug where there normally isnt one. Just put it close to the other one and your set. Probably be much cheaper than getting a brand new one. good luck |
