Water Pump Troubles

Just recently I took out my radiator and replaced it and I had not noticed that I had water pump problems after I put it back in. After replacing the water pump after I had driven on it I noticed white smoke and the smell of anti-freeze from the tail pipe. I think that I might of blown a head gasket and now the antifreeze is leaking into the motor. Is there any kind of seal or some kind of additive that I would have to put inside the motor or would it probely just the head gasket?

I know I'm not going to spell this correctly, but I'll try: Sodium Syllicate. Readily available at most pharmacies, it could stop a leak at hoover dam. Incredible stuff.

Take care,
-Chris

This might be a dumb question - but how do you get that stuff inside the motor without taking off the heads?

Did you check your oil to see if you have any anti-freeze in the oil? If you do I would recommend putting on new head gaskets ASAP.

You poor it into the radiator. It's about as thick as syrup.

Wouldn't that plug up the thermastat?

That's a good question. Oddly enough, though, it doesn't. It works excellent for repairing head gaskets, cracked heads and blocks (provided the crack is in a water jacket), etc. Actually, I haven't seen any in a few years because I no longer believe in repairing things that way, but I'm sure it's still around.

Take care,
-Chris

please tell me your not going to try to "repair" a blown head gasket!

Park the car, on stands, drain the oil, pull the heads, chech the cylinder walls and go from there.

you guys scare me.:)

No. What I meant was I wouldn't try to plug a leak, I would replace the gasket, and probably surface the heads.

How much would you put in? A bottle?
