Torque Boxes
Well, I'm in the process of getting the suspension figured out for my stang. Eibach drag springs, mac control arms, lakewood 70/30, 50/50s. With all that, what should I do to my torque boxes? My budget isn't very big now that I've got the rest of what I need. So is there anything I can have made or inexpensively purchase to strengthen the torque boxes?

I think Rick91gt makes a kit for about a hundred bucks that is supposed to be pretty good. Hope this helps

Yah it's him that makes the re-inforcement kit. It's a very nice and complete kit. 2FastLx bought one from him and I looked at it and it looked very professional.
If you decide not to get a kit, then you can just weld up the seams in the torque boxes. This should be good enough unless your doin 5500RPM launches on slicks |
I'm a pretty good MIG welder, where are the seams that should be welded for reinforcement? Do you have any pics? Can it be done with the LCA's in place?

do it before they go. mine went and it was a bitc h to get them all lined up right. just take out your upper and lower control arms and your backseat and carpet and weld them in completely. they come from the factory spot welded.

The kit they are refeing to is actually a se of torque box braces.click this link to an earlier post that will show you what im talking about

Thanks Guys...
Yes I make the fore mentioned kit:D
Even with the seams fully welded I still managed to rip them apart:( The kit is twice as thick as the metal that the factory box is made of, pretty flimsy. Bang all the seams back together, make sure they are straight and welda ll the seams for the boxes you will see the factory spots, you should also fully weld the upper brackets in this helps a lot os well. You will need a wire that works with galvanized since you will run into that with the factory metal and panels. If you are interested in a kit let me know;) Rick91GT@onemain.com |
