4.6 thinkin bout buying a 5.0

hey i have a 97 gt, and i am going off to college. i cant take the vert. what i am thinken is getting a 94/5 gt with a 5.0 can anybody tell me a little about those two year gt's. thanks. stuff like upgradability, problems, performance, durability. thanks

Upgradability is superior N/A to the 4.6L SOHC, probably a little inferior for forced induction.

Problems are pretty much non existent. The trannies are a little weaker (supposedly), they don't respond to cams real well a lot of the time.

Performance is slightly superior to your GT stock vs stock.

Durability of the 5.0 (302) is proven for the last 35 years. They last a long time. Both the engine and tranny should fly past 100k with no problems.

Yep, 5 liter mods are the most prolific and simple as you can get; also, as unit said, its a proven engine, so, no need to expect anything wrong.

caution!

I have a 1994 gt, and it is a great car. It does have one problem. As I'm driving down the road, It downshifts when it's not supposed to, and also just revs. I've had the transmission rebuilt, and it still does it. I've brought it to a few shops, and they haven't been able to figure out what the problem is. I don't know if all '94's do the same thing, but be careful!

If you plan to work on the engine yourself, the 5.0 is your choice. It's much easier to work on. Upgrade parts are cheaper and more plentiful. From what I have seen, the 5.0's durability is better than the 4.6. The 4.6 is, of course, "smoother and more refined." I suppose I'll catch a few flames for that last comment
