alternator pulley

Anyone know where you can get a smaller than stock alternator pulley? I don't need a whole set, just the one alt. pulley.

Are you sure you want it smaller? That would take more power to operate and might over spin it enough to make the alternator fail. An under driven pulley would be larger. I bet March has pulleys available individually, but you might have to order it from your favorite speed shop. Check Summit.

I just don't want to keep charging the battery every month. Would a better option be to yank out the stock alt. and install a 140 amp alt.?

YES!

it solved all of my problems.

Yeh, I gotta check my alternator. I think it's my battery that is just old and crappy.

I bought a 140amp alt and it was great....when I have driving.... When I was at idle, it wouldn't charge like it should. I used the stock pully and the underdrive pully and nieither one fixed my problem. So, I called March and bought the overdrive pully. It worked great (for the first two weeks). One day on my way to school, my regulator blew and fried my headlights (Ford had internally regulated alts). So, I went back to the stock alt. I still have poor charging at ldle but as long as my car runs, I am not that concerned about it. I am going to put the overdrive pully on the stock alt and see if that helps.

I am looking to see where it is drawing from. I ran an electical systems analyzer and it showed the alternator is shot and there is draw somewhere. I have a Powermaster 140 amp coming tomorrow so hopefully, me and my girlfriend will be able to party down on New Year's.

ya, get a 140, it fixed all my problems.

I agree. Go with the G3 alternator that puts out 130amps+ If you go to a smaller pulley, you'll exceed the alternator's operating range in rpm causing a discharge.

There are a couple places that can cause a drain in the alternator. The internal rectifier is the most common part to fail like that.
