two problems :(
My mustang has two problems now i cant figure out what is causeing them. First the right front weel squeeks when going slowly around a corner, and the second is on the left side at cirtin rpm's there is a really bad rattle, could the rattle be from my cats? well the squeak i can deal with for now but the rattle is just annoying, it sounds as if my car is falling apart!
|
I would say the squeek could be a brake pad.? and the rattle could be the cats. maybe the heat sheild has a rock in it?? hmm COULD be anything man??
|
The squealing could also be wheel bearings. and i second the vote on the cats. either that or some other exhaust component
|
weel bering
thats also what i was told by a friend of mine, what can i do to fix that, as for the rattle in the cats. i found one of the gaurds around it was very loose. Now just to fix that weel.....the comes the fun parts....

pull off the rotors. there are grease seal on the fronts and backs. pry these off with a screwdriver. from the parts store, grab inner and outer seals, wheel bearings, and a can of grease. put everything back together with a liberal amount of grease. if you pick up a chiltons manual for the car it takes you step by step through pretty much everything.
|
chiltons
ah chiltons, what would i do with out you.... buy a vw bug....or a lawnmower well for the grease, will a zerk grease work?
|
no. You want high temp grease, the clearish stuff, comes in a tub. you end up using a lot of it, just make sure you pack those bearings well. if needed, you might want to go ahead and replace the rotors at the same time. this isn't that hard of a job, my dad and i did it in a couple hours.
|
The rattling sound could be loose cat heat shields. You can fix this up with a couple of large hose clamps around the cat.
Does the squeaking sound appear as your turning the steering wheel or does it sound like it is in time with the rotation of the wheel after you have the wheel turned? If it appears while you are turning the wheel I would suspect a ball joint(s). |
eh?
first read what other people have whriten to me, and second the cat problem is fixed compleatly, one half of the heat sheld was missind and the other loose so i just removed the other half (the whole h-pipe is going to be replaced) but thanks anyways for the help

LX5liter has apoint. redoing the wheel bearings will probably do the trick, but if you still have aproblem after that it is probably the ball joints.
