Urgent Help!!!!Just installed aluminum heads on backwards...Will it work OK???
I just installed my aluminum AFR heads on backwards and torqued everything down....I noticed they were reversed when I could see the smog hole inserts on the front side...Am I safe to keep going or do I have to take off the heads...Thanks for any info....

The smog hole adpaters should be in the front so you can bolt up your alt, p/s, a/c. The rear should be open for the t/e tube unless you're not running a t/e system then you can buy the plugs from a Ford dealer and install them. The way I installed mine when I eliminated the t/e tube was to put a bolt in the plugs and screw them in and then remove the bolt. The parts number for the plugs is F4ZZ-6E086-A, they sell for $2.74 ea. RAY

I am probably using the wrong terminology...My t/e holes are plugged with the threaded plugs you described, but they are now on the front side of the engine instead of the backside...My accesory holes are on the backside of the drivers side head...If the heads are symmetrical in the design, surely there won't be any problems..??

There is no backwards way to do it.

heads can go either way but just make sure both head gaskets have front going to the front. 1 with be upside down looking

Stangrunner,
After staring at the aluminum heads for a while I found that I did not put them on backwards after all...And I also see that you are exactly correct...It looks like the threaded hole pattern is the same on both ends of the heads...Glad I didn't have to go through the trouble of taking off the heads...Thanks for everyones input....Hope my Victor 5.0 does well with the 175 shot of juice.. |
