8's in 1/8 Mile on 87 Octane?
 
Has anyone run in the 8's in 1/8 mile with 99-02 GT automatic while still using 87 octane gas (no additives)? If so, what mods were required?

Sorry to say I havent seen a GT/auto break out of 14's in 1/4 here let alone run 8's in 1/8.

If you have few mods I only recommend running 87octane. First off old racer tip is dont run it if you dont need it. Higher octane burns slower and can slow you down if car isnt designed or built to run higher octane for racing.

I only use 87 for mine.

I went 8.29 @ 86.xxx mph in the 1/8 with V2 S-trim @ 12 psi on my auto on 93 Octane. It would be stupid to risk an engine using 87. I have been much quicker/faster than 8s with the turbo with my stock auto which is now completely built.

I was hoping something like Bassini Off-road x-pipe, 4.10 gears, Transgo shift kit, drag radials, Mobil-1 oil, and K&N air filter might do it. I would think the gas octane requirement might not raise until timing was increased with something like the Steeda TA.

You will be fine on 87 octane, unless you do advance the timing,add boost to your engine, or increase the compression ratio. I'm not sure about what you will run with those mods, there's only one way to know for sure. Good Luck

Well, first I don't believe any car is created equal, especially Mustang's.

I have a 2001 GT Mineral Gray (automatic), check out my web page (needs updated I know)

Bone stock my best E.T. is: 14.52@96mph

With the only mod being 2-chamber Flowmasters: 14.26@97.14mph

And with the addition of a MAC cold air kit: 13.992@100mph

Those are some signifigant(sp?) improvements, have you put it on a dyno?

My car is better with 87 octane. Higher octane seems to slow it down.

I ran 8.98@79 MPH with 87 octane. See the sig for a complete list of the many mods I have.:D

I take it one if the biggest things holding an auto back is the stock converter. What do they stall and/or flash at anyways?

Freddie and FoxBuilder,

You guys give me great hope for my automatic GT! Were you manually shifting your autos or just running them in Drive? How many miles do you have on your cars? Are you running original stock tires on your cars? What air pressure and what kind of launch techniques? I know, lots of questions, but you guys are really putting down some good times for very little mods and on 87 octane!

By the way, FoxBuilder, nice photo of your Mineral Grey 2001 GT. Had to go out and look in the garage to make sure mine was still there;>). It's cool how the paint takes on a grey shade when in soft light like your photo, but takes on a more dramatic goldish tint in the strong sunlight.

What kind of reaction times are you getting? Also, how are you launching the car?

The car is my daily driver, so I just put it in drive and punch the gas on yellow (still trying to find out witch one). I am currently pushing 13,000 miles. I run the stock tires with them right at 45psi. I really only started to spin the tires after I got the mufflers, best 60 foot is 2.1. My best reaction time so far is .599. Like I said I'm still trying to figure it out. A buddy who gets .510 / .520 R/T's all the time in his '89 GT ran my car once. He got the same dang .599 on the nose reaction time I did....but I still ran faster. Any who, the 14.52 and the 14.26 I ran was on 87 octane, but the 13.99 was on 92 octane. When I put the cold air kit on I noticed at the high end the car would ping very slightly, so I went to a higher octane
