Gear ratio for Fox Bodies

Did any of the 87-93 5.0 LX verts come with 3.73's from the factory?????? Or any model in general actually.

Now im not 100% sure but I thought that all the fox mustangs came with 2:73's ot 3:08's. Least thats what I have been told.

The standard stock setup was 2.73, and most are that. You could get 3.08 or 3.27 from the factory, I have no idea how though.

From what I remember, 2.73's were standard on all models, 3.08's were optional on coupes and hatches and the 3.27 was only avaliable on AOD verts, but I could be wrong

2.73's came on the later (87-90) fox bodies, 3.08's came on the newer ones (91-93), i believe the change was made due to the fact that GM switched to 3.08's on the camaro's and firebirds, and 3.27's came optional on the AOD GT's, 91-93 and they need it too!

------------------
'93 Gt, Stock as a rock, but plan an AOD to T-5 swap, steeda tri-ax shifter, 3.55's, cobra intake, gt-40 irons, e303 cam, 1.6 rr's, mac headers, off road h-pipe, flowmasters cat back, msd ignition, blaster coil, mac cold air box (fenderwell), eibach springs, silver cobra r's, and an obnoxiously large mustang in the back window =0)

In the door panel tag you will see a box for axle code..."ax"
m=2.73
z=3.08
e=3.27 (AOD only)

5 speeds were 2.73 standard with 3.08 optional. Auto's had an optional 3.27. Nothing higher than that has been in a Fox Mustang, or any Mustang since for that matter.

Re: Gear ratio for Fox Bodies

2.73:1 is stock for all 5spd cars, 3.08:1 is stock for all automatic cars, 3.27:1 was an option for all cars i think, possibly for the auto verts n i think the 93 cobra r's had them too, cant remember but i used to know. the reason for the 3.08's is the obvious, to take up the slack in the gearing of the auto trans. 3.55's fit right in out of f150's so u see alot of mustangs for sale advertiseing 3.55's to the point where ppl think they came from factory with those. I think thunderbird sc's have 3.27's stock. ford explorers have 3.73's in a 8.8 inch diff, explaining y so many ppl have those gears in their stangs now. 4.10's can probably be found in f150's with a tow package. Oh and rangers have 3.73's too!
