mac flowpath vs. flowmaster 2 chamber

Are the mac flowpaths louder than the flowmaster 2 chambers from the american thunder cat back? I'm going with a new 3" systerm and don't want flowmasters again, i don't like the tinny sound, but I don't want the car any louder than it was before. I know mac flowpath's have a deeper sound which is what i want, but are they louder than the flowmasters?

i have the Mac flowpaths bolted to a off road H and mac long tube heads and yes it dose have a deeper sound..which i to like better..at cruising speeds id have to say no there not louder then the 2 chambers, at WOT i dont know iv never compared..i know the mac flowpaths are pretty fricken loud at WOT but at lower RPM's has more of a deeper rumble...

ppl talk about how the coating on mac stuff isnt good and there mufflers rust out fast..i dont care..i like the sound so much that even if i get my car out of storage and the mufflers have holes rusted in them id buy the flowpaths again

i say go for something different and go with the Flowpaths...i dought you will be disappointed

Yea, that's what i am wanting to do. Everyone under the sun has flowmasters. I'd like a deeper sound to it. My former system was hooker shorty headers, pacesetter off road h, and flowmaster american thunder 2.5" system....on a 302. Now i'm going with mac 351 windsor swap long tubes, with a mac 3" pro chamber, and mac true fit 3" cat back.....on a 393 that will still have the vortech s trim. I know the car is going to be loud, i just hope i don't get pulled over every time i make it into town. I must say i agree i want a deeper sounding exhaust note than the flowmasters plus be a little different. I've heard several guys say that a bunch of people with the flowmasters really compliment them on their mac flowpath's. I don't know. i guess i will find out soon.

DemonGT one question... Does the MAC flowpath muffler have a drone to it, like the flowmaster? Had the superturbos but ditched them when I got the American thunder catback... I am sick with the flowmaster DRONE!!!   Wish I still had the turbo muffs.:)

DemonGT 01-06-2002 04:25 PM

mustang- no not really..there really isnt much of a drone at all...every time some one asks what mufflers to get i always suggest the mac flowpaths...i have 100% no complaints..and after hearing some sound clips of the flowmasters im glad i went with the macs

here is a sound clip of mac mufflers but this is with stock h pipe..and when i rev mine it dosnt get a whiny at higher RPM or back fire/cackle like that...but on start up it sounds similar

My Mac 2.5" system is pretty mild sounding with the stock H pipe and headers. Flowmaster systems I have heard are much louder and drone much more. I am pretty happy with the Mac system since my car is a daily driver. When I get my MAC 1 5/8" long tubes it should get louder!!!

I have had both the Flowmasters and Flowpaths with longtube headers and off road H-pipe.

The MAC's are much deeper tone than the Flowmasters. The MAC's are louder at WOT but at idle and cruising they are similiar. I prefer the MAC's Flowpath by far, even at idle they just have a little deeper rumble.

chevyguy- you bet itll get louder..i have long tubes and off road h..

i just think the macs flat out sound meaner then any other mufflers out there..my buddy has dynomax mufferls..not sure what kind though..sounds good pretty mean but he has a 347 and all that stuff to so i dont know if that makes a difference

2FastLX 01-08-2002 01:15 AM

MAC mufflers blow Flowmasters away when it comes to sounding mean. And they flow better too.

Spenc2u 01-08-2002 10:25 AM

Mac's sound fine, "BUT"

Everyone I know who has bought MAC Flowpaths say they rust out in NO time.. as well, the chrome on the tips is junk.

Personally speaking, from the MAC products I have, I totally agree

MAC is cheap junk and their service is brutal!

If you have better luck than 'great' for you

:0)

MAC is now making a stainless steel muffler. I wouldn't get their chrome tips because they rust rather quickly. Just buy some stainless turn downs and flow tubes to mate up with your crossover.

Yeah, MAC's quality sucks, but I think the stainless mufflers would be nice, and still sound better than any other muffler out there.

I know Jeff at www.mustangwarehouse.com is selling these stainless mufflers, and probably has the best price on them. Give him a shout and tell him Kevin sent ya.
