Holley Systemax II Race Kit

What's everyones opinions? And do you think 11.70's are possble with a good setup?

RAGE_5.0 01-08-2002 10:34 PM

I plan on getting this kit in the summer or next winter
i am going on nothing but guarentees of 350rwhp and 12's that i read in magazines though

They claim 11.70's with the race kit.

Well if your looking at the so called "Race Kit" from Excessive Motorsports .....DON'T ORDER ANYTHING FROM THOSE RIP OFF'S. Check their BBB rating..it sucks.

Get the stock kit from Summit and a aftermarket cam, and if you have a decent suspension and a car that hooks you can get into the 11's as long as you can drive. I was able to get my full weight GT into the 12.60's @ 108mph with the complete kit, non-emissions cam.

After a cam change :DAFM-N-61:D and a swap to 30# injectors and a 76mm C&L I was able to get the car into the 11's w/ my NA 302. With the correct gear to match this cam I hope to be in the 11.40's or quicker next year. I have went 114.9MPH with this combo and the 3:73's, with a swap to the 4:30's we are looking for 117mph+

My SystemMax II kit came from Excessive with their Stage II heads. When they ported the heads they went in to a water jacket. My new engine ran perfectly until the thermostat opened up. It filled one of the cylinders up with water and cracked my brand new block. It also destroyed a new forged piston and rod. You can see pictures of what happened here:

How about the emission? I thought that all the Systemax kits were non emissions kits?

B.T.W. - What do these kits go for?

chadtn2 01-09-2002 09:12 AM

The SystemMax II kit is supposed to make 350 hp at the crank when used with the other recommended parts. I usually see them advertised for around $2000.

My SystemMax II kit was non-emissions. I think the deciding factor is the cam. They probably offer an emissions legal cam...I never checked.

They also sell a SystemMax I kit that is basically just a lower intake and cam. It is supposed to make 270 hp

You can get the kit with a EMISSIONS LEGAL cam, you just need to specify when ordering the kit runs around $2100.

I have Systemax intake, E-303, and TFS heads. My car is 11 second capable on motor with some decent hook.

EXCESSIVE MOTORSPORT SUCKS

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM EXCESSIVE MOTORSPORT.

These jerks don't know how to put together Legos. I'm not surprised they messed up Chad's heads. Hell, these guys put the cam in my long-block in wrong. It was off by a tooth. It cost me hundreds of dollars trying to figure why my car was running like crap and these guys refused to reimburse me for anything.

I still may take a road-trip down there one of these days. My blood boils everytime I get to thinking about this.

i have a 90 coupe with holley intakes, canfield sgt2, ultra dyne cam (600lift288dur)30#inj, 70tb,75 mass air , long tubes 1 5/8 and full 2.5 exhaust with 3:55 gears im having some computer problems ( cant get a reading on the TPS)thinks it a ground somewhere and the car runs 12.18 @112 with a 1.72 60 foot time i think the car will run some low 11 s with 3 in exhaust and a gear change ( 3:90) may be 410s and the computer fixed.

I have installed a few Systemax kits with excellent results. Out of the box performance is very respectable. Just don't use the cam in the kit with EFI. Lunati which is a Holley division supplies the cams for the kits. Unfortunately Holley didn't take the advice of Lunati engineers when it came to the specs for the cam. The problem with the cam is the lobe separation angle is to narrow (107deg./102intake centerline). Vacuum and idle quality suffer drastically, the surging will drive you nuts. A Lunati rep. claims the engineers where never able to get the test car to idle reasonably enough to work with EFI. I was told by the same rep. that Holley offers another cam for customers unhappy with the kit cam. Also for reference, when Holley designed the Systemax kit it was tested on a GT with an AODw/3500 stall and 4.10 or 4.30 gears,30lbs. inj,75mm Pro-M. Holley makes no claims to have tested the Systemax kit on a 5spd setup. Use a cam grind from any of the popular cam companies and you can't go wrong with the Systemax kit.

Goodluck,
Bill

The cam Bill is referring too is the non-emissions cam, which is the cam I ran in the beginning. ALthough I never had surge issues it had one hell of a lopey idle and vaccum was very low (due to 64 degrees overlap). I swapped the cam out because it just wasn't enough cam to get me where I wanted to be. Holley does offer the kit with the emissions legal cam that has a more friendly 112 centerline, just ask for this when you order the kit or be prepeared to buy another cam to max out the combo, just remember th new kits come with 2.02 valve heads. I thing I strongly suggest is get 30# injectors, I had issues with the 24# going lean up top the swap to the 30# made the whole car smooth out and run so much better.

I think some of the surging issues are due to a 75mm Pro-M with 24# injectors. Pro-M could not get the fuel curve exactly right with a 75mm and 24# if you run 30# you are ok, for some reason they just could not get the 24# calibration right and it runs rich down low and lean up top. Many guys have had this problem, the swap to the 76mm was a good buy for me.

We installed the non-emissions cam (.509/.509 218/224 102/107) in my buddies stock motored car, and it idles great and really woke it up, the car runs nice and strong with the stock pieces. I think the Holley pieces make that the cam not run as nice since the flow so much more air. He has 4:10 gears, stock everything else but exhaust, and he has a BBK cold air kit and underdrives.
