Sprint Car Crash Pics (dial-up beware!!!)

Well, it's time to get ready for the new racing season. The boss called this week gathering my information for the 2001 Champions jacket I will receive at the 2002 Banquet next month. The first drivers meeting of the year is a week from Friday, so it's time to get rolling. We already have the engine torn down, and are having it cleaned up at the machine shop. The only disconcerting news is that the boss has decided to do away with our blue frame/white body panel color scheme in favor of a purple frame with orange body panels. I stood there for two minutes waiting for him to tell me he was joking, but he's not. Maybe he see's something I don't, but I can't envision this as looking "good". We'll see. It is, after all, his car.

Anyway, I was checking the website of the track photographer, and he finally posted the pictures of the last race of the 2001 season. Included were these 5 pictures of a roll-over that occured, and since I haven't posted any of these in 2 months, I thought it was time for a refresher. The driver flipping is Shawn Kautz, and the driver in the "JESUS SAVES" car is John Geyer. The track is Ventura Raceway, and the date was November 17, 2001. BTW, it seems only fair to mention the track photographer's website as well (he's not selling anything). It can be found here.

Enjoy!

Take care,
-Chris

Wow...those are some cool pictures....

How much damage (money and work/time wise) does a rollover wreck like that cause on one of those cars?

Good luck this season, Chris.

That one was relatively cheap. As I remember, he only damaged the right side nerf bar, the front suspension and the steering linkage. About $600 to $1000 depending on whether they bent the front axle.

Nope. Walked away. The safety equipment is pretty good when it's used properly.

Take care,
