Do Mustang rear bumbers warp in the sun? Please Look!!! Very important!!!

Ok I'm startin to get really mad. I was hit from behind over two months ago and the insurance doesn't want to pay. I have two estimates one for $590 and one for $630. They estimated it at $264. My back bumper is warped and it wasn't like that till after the acident, but the insurance adjuster is saying that it was sun damage. Have any of you heard of the back bumpers on my style Mustang warping int the sun? If any of you have pics of your car from the rear, PLEASE post them.

Here is a pic of my rear bumper. You decide.
P.S. sorry about the bad light

Anyone else. I need some pics of your rear bumper cover to show the insurance. To show him that they don't all warp. PLEASE help!!!!!

not to rain on your parade, but it DOES look like sun damage...looks almost identical to the second picture.:(

BELLE, it wasn't like that till after the wreck. What, did it warp from the time I had the accident till the time I got home. I don't know it might be sun damage, but I think I would have noticed it before. Has many times as I've washed it I think I would have noticed.

There really isn't any support under the plate and I think everyones sags to some degree...I would have to think that yours is being helped along with the actual damage-kinda ripple effect(not the wine)...if you put pressure on one side and everything stays attached then there has to be some give in another area..one being under the plate...

I think I would get a couple of opinions from local bodyman and try most importantly to get one from say a Ford bodyman..

I have known several stangs that sit out but the most I have seen is as before mentioned and that is a little sag under the plate...

my 2 cents

My rear GT bumper (before I got my NEW Cobra bumber) did that. It was even in the same spot. It was like that when I bought it. I though it was sun damage too. It might be possible that it was caused my the wreck but it is hard to prove it. Those bumpers bend very easily so if it were hit, it would bounce right back in the same shape. Sorry dude...:(

I've had my stang for 8 years and it sits in the sun all the time. No sagging here.

I agree also-140k on my 88 and everything is straight..

my 93 is also clean but its garage kept and only has 60k on it..

The rear bumper cover on my 92GT sags a little bit under the license plate but nothing like your picture. If I were going to venture a guess, I'd say that since you only noticed it after it came out of the body shop that perhaps they pulled the old switcheroo on you and installed a different bumper cover.

ok...I didn't say it WAS sun damage, I said it looks like it, which means it looks like that to the insurance dude too. I say put pressure on him with support from reliable sources, and you might be ok. Good luck.

mine is the EXACT same as yours. mine is original though. some sag some dont. maybe it is just how the urethane reacts to heat and sun i guess. i have seen some sag after they are brand new and i have seen some with no sag on original 86's. aftermarket and Ford ones too. my suggestion is to live with it or replace it again. i would say its normal. i have seen many like ours. i dont think there is a reason why except sun and heat, some just react quicker than others.

ok, here's what happend to mine, sorry, no pics.

I had a hit and run about a year ago. It was in the front end. After they hit me, it warped the bumper. I took time to try my best to reshape it durring the winter time. But as soon as I came down here to cali, the sun rewarped it, and it came out worse then before. But before the guy hit me, I had no problems with it. So I would say, because of the guy hitting u, making it warp in the first place, when the sun got hot, it just made it worse. Don't tell them that though. But thats BS that they are trying to swindle their way out, they should pay it all unless THEY have proof it was the sun.

First, mine is "warped" the exact same as yours. I have seen this "droop" in the bumper in the same place on many other Stangs as well.

Second, I was in a rear-end wreck a couple years ago. Some 16 year old kid rear-ended me - basically he scracthed up my bumper pretty good. We got a police report and everything. Insurance covered everything. I simply took my Mustang to my local Ford dealer and they put on a new bumper - looked great for about a year and then the dreaded "droop" happened again. I think it's just a typical issue on many Stang's on this period.

Get tough with the insurance company and get your Stang fixed right.

Good luck, E
