Repainting My Pony's!!
 

I have painted my pony's before with a Metalic silver. I does'nt look bad but the paint aint that good and my front rims look nasty as hell. The rear look brand new.

What I want to know is the factory color of the pony's. what i am saying is, What is the name of that color?

This is going to be my project soon, but tommorow I am going to repaint my front rim's.

Can I get the paint at a local Auto paint supply store? or in any Auto Parts?

I don't know the name of the color but, I just got done with the same project this week.. Believe it or not I used Premium Rust-Oleum Metallic paint, then used Premium R-O crystal clear enamel.. The wheels look beautiful.. I also painted the center caps, just taped off the little horsy scuffed them up with 400 grit paper and shot them... I did the same thing to my 89 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10 wheels last year and they still look great. I hope for the same luck with my pony's.. I think the clear coat is the key.. The color I used is brighter (I think better) than the stock color... Good Luck... What kind of paint did you use?

well, I got my pony's repainted and I did them myself. I painted them with Bumper paint. Metalic silver. Actually they look close to the original color but more silverish. The guys love it. I got it at Pepboys.

The wheels look brand new and now I really can get ready for the car show in in Miami comming up this weekend.

Oh yeah, I also did my Interior Satin black.. Boy!! talk about new Interior!!

I painted mine with rustoleum dark gray(not areosol can) and polished the lip

Hey Poop, ha sorry that sounded kinda funny. What did you use to polish the lip that looks killer. I have some scuffs on mine. I was planning on selling the car but I have sinced changed my mind. I cant afford to go with Cobra's like I want so I thought just polishing mine myself. There is a guy here that will do a set for $350 bucks. I have seen his work and he is good. But if I can do it and save the money I'm all for it.

A small polishing wheel for a die grinder and polishing compound(tripoli, white rouge). You can buy it at Home Depot.

It's gonna be a bear to do the whole wheel, plus the center caps are plastic.

Forget it then. I'll wait until I can get the Cobras. Thanks anyways

PONY_Power_90 Hey, just do your rims. I did all four of mine in 2 1\2 hours. just use some sand paper to smooth the rims out. Then here is how I painted the rims still on the car. Just cover the brake's and spray some silicone( tire Shine) on the wheels. (This make it very easy to clean the over spray on the tires).

So just pick the color you want for your rims and go at it. Oh yes, make sure you spray clear coat on your rims after you finish.
when you start to clean the over spray of the tires, use some paint thinner or degreaser. It will still come off VERY EASY if you spray SILICONE (Tire Shine) on the wheels.

I won 3rd place in a car show and that was because of my wheels were very nice.
I got another show this Sunday and the car looks Killer Now.

I don't mean to be a smart *** but I would not spray silicon on my WHEELS before i painted them. SIlicon is a contaminate and paint will not stick or lay down evenly when applied over it. Perhaps you meant to spray it on your TIRES? I do alot of painting and believe me I wouldn't want silicon any where near an area I was painting especially if I wanted a solid long lasting good job.Ever wonder why painters use a booth? To keep out contaminates.Silicon,dust,bugs, water ,sweat,Armor all etc. I am not saying that it can't be done if you are real careful but I wouldn't want to risk having to do it again. For best results remove the wheels and dismount the tires. Clean the wheels and wet sand them with 400 grit and then spray them. You'll be glad you spent the extra effort."anything worth doings worth doing right":D BTW Not trying to start anything. Just my 2 cents.

Cool, I know what you mean but YES I meant the Tires with Silicone:D NOT THE PONY"S in case anyone read's this.

Anyways my buget was limited then, and taking of the tires here are to expensive. Yep! expensive here in Miami. They charge to much anyways.
