How do I convert a 4-banger to 5-lug

ok, I was considering some 96 or 97 Cobra rims for my car. When I convert to 5-lug, can I just use mark IV rotors up front or will I have to change spindels, exc. because of my 10" brakes.

I'm pretty sure I will have to change the spindels and stuff, but I was just gonna make sure.

From what i've read lincoln rotors will work on a 5.0L with the larger rotors 11"......but you've got 10" front rotors so nevermind that idea :D
One thing that i've heard that works for switching on the rear is ranger axle shafts and drum brakes (from the 7.5" ranger rear) will swap right in but i think you need something like 2 of the same side axle shafts from the ranger....i've never done it so i'm not exactly sure, but this may help you find info about it.

For the fronts you could convert to the later model size brakes by buying new struts (for bolting onto the spindle), new spindles and all the brake stuff like calipers, hoses, etc. and then use the lincoln mark VII rotors which from what i hear swap right over since they're the same diameter.

I'm not sure but lincoln may have made a fox body car with 5 lug 10" rotors, but i've also heard since they're heavier they've always had better brakes than mustangs which means that there may not be any 10" 5 lug rotors other than aftermarket stuff you can buy.

There also might be kits for vehicles with 10" front brakes with the 7.5" rear axle, but i believe they cost as much as the conversion for the vehicles with the better brakes so it may not be worth the money to try and convert the stock brake system to 5 lug.

I hope this helped a little, hopefully someone can tell you more than i can :D

Axle swap

Use the rear axles from a Lincoln and find a set of spindles from a broken down 94 or pick up a conversion kit. Summit sells kits for front end conversions and all of the mustang publications have vendors for such kits.

Hey man, go here. I am having to convert to bigger brakes from the 4 cylinder brakes also. I'm not sure yet if I am gonna go with the 5 lug or not. I already have my 8.8 rear so I can just get axles and brake drums for the rear if I want to go with the 5 lug. I am getting the front stuff off of my 90 model that I wrecked. All you need to do is find a 5.0 thats wrecked or junk. You can get the stuff there. Then you could buy axles and drums for the rear and new rotors and calipers for the front. Hope this helps.
