Mid-80's Capri or 89-93 GT vert?
Well, I'm buying another car this summer (keeping my current GT of course). I have it down to either a mid 80's Capri or an 89-93 GT convertible. If I buy the Capri I'll pay it off in a few months and start saving and as soon as possible put a 408 w/ a C4, a hefty shot of nitrous, a cage and all of the good stuff - basically a drag car that I can cruise around town with - or buy the GT convertible and put some chrome rims on it, a nice sounding exhaust, light bar and just make it a cruising car and not modify the engine at all.
I'm having a hard time deciding. I want a drag car but I also want a 'vert. I guess I could buy the convertible and build up my current car but there are only a few Capris around here - but a ton of 5.0's. Any opinions would be appreciated. Even though I'll probably buy the car in July it was bugging me all day while I was at work. The decision will probably end up being based on which car I find first that is nice and selling for a good price. |

don't worry about me buying a forieng car. i don't car ehow fast a car is if it sounds like my lawn boy(rx7)then i don't want it. I can't afford anything that is fast and japanese. those damn TT supras are to damn expensive

I'd get a vert. But why no mods for the engine? A fox body vert weights less than a SN-95.

as long as your talking about the fox chassi capri ,then i'd get that .........i like the capri's and there pretty rare

Drag car or ragtop
RAGE_5.0:
I vote for the GT convertible. An old Capri with a gigantic engine and a chassis set up for the strip will not be very practical for cruising around town, I assure you. The cost of gas, alone, will kill you, not to mention hassles you get such as loading up the plugs and potential cooling and charging problems while trying to drive a race car on the street. No A/C, uncomfortable seat and ride are all part of the mix. A race car isn't meant for street cruising and a street car doesn't do what a race car does on the track, so you have to make a choice as to what you want most; To cruise - or to race? The GT convertible will be a lot more fun and certainly more useful in the long run, even if it doesn't turn 10's and leave huge plumes of smoking rubber at every light. I would go for it. |
thx for the advice guys
i never really though of it like that. I think that your right a 408 powered capri would probably not do to well around town. I think since reading this i will probably go witht eh vert and build up my current mustang. i never thought of the charging and cooling problems with the street/strip car. will the frame being starightened on my car have any effect on it??? will it still be as strong as it was? oh and i said no engine mods for the vert because if get the vert then i will build up my current 1990 gt |
