pre-86 cast valve covers and Roller Rockers
I am looking to install Cobra 1.7 RR and am hoping that I can use my 'powered by Ford' cast aluminum valve covers.
I know that these are taller than the fuel injected model covers, but are they tall enough? I know that I can trial fit them, But I just want to know before I put alot of effort into cleaning them up... If you have to remove the baffle - are there any detrimental effects? thanks |
Sorry Man
Sorry to say they don't fit without removing the baffle. I had that problem on mine. I really like the "Powered by Ford" covers too. I had to order a set of aftermarket covers to get them to fit over my roller rockers.
I didn't bother removing the baffle, I just cleaned them up and hung them in my garage. If you do take the baffle out oil can splash up into your PCV valve and clog it up, not to mention that it could splash up past your breather cap and make a mess on the newly cleaned valve covers. Steve |
I got the crane 1.7's and they cleared no prob.... but I dont know if the valve cover rail is taller on the AFR's.... dont think so though

yeah, I thought that the crane 'cobra' 1.7's had a little more clearance than other designs...
what were the valve covers that came on the cobra's like? anyway, I'll have to test fit them to make sure, so I might as well wait... thanks |
Mine didn't fit at all, maybe it has something to do with the Windsor Jrs.

I would guess they wouldn't fit. Mabey with tall gaskets?
They are really nice covers for stock! Up here a store sells aftermarket ones that are almost identical but they are $300 Can. http://www.mustangworks.com/cgi-bin/...dia.cgi?1702+3 |
I have the Ford Motorsport 1.72 ratio rockers on mine, and the cast valve covers fit without any clearance problems. The baffles are still in them too.
