Carb. for 351 Cleveland
I have a 351 Cleveland powered late '71 build Mach 1. The 2bbl. carb is nearly done; I can have it rebuilt, but I want to go with the Edlebrock Manifold that allows me to put on a 4bbl. carb. I've had my 'hot rod' mechanic say that a Holley 750 double-pumper is the only way to go; the guys at the performance shop say a 670 Holley Vac. Sec. is plenty. The car is a daily driver with some highway done each day; pleasure only during the summer as I am a teacher with summers off. Car is and will remain a daily driver - no pedal to the metal; no quarter mile times required, but I do like the feeling of power that the 2bbl. is not delivering.
Suggestions welcome! Thank you. |
I'd go with the 670 vac. carb...better performance and you'll get better mileage than with the 2v carb too ;-)

I would look into an edlebrock carb. I realy like mine it is easy to tune and works fine as a daily driver carb. There are also not as many gaskets that can leak on an edlebrock carb.

I hate edelbrock carbs personally. They never have given me good performance on my cleveland (been through 2). I had a holley 3310 600cfm for a while. It did alright, but off the line power is much better now with my holley 770 street avenger. The street avenger was designed from scratch to be a great performing street carb that provided good fuel economy/part throttle acceleration. Speaking from experience, I'd put a 670 street avenger on for your purposes.
