my horrible experince at Fontana

Well i took the car over to the fontana street drags today and well it spun the rod bearings. So i had to quit and go home. Never got a good run in. It did a 13.3 while spining the bearings. Looks like the car will be on the shelf for a while. It will cost me lots of money to fix it. I am thinking i am just going to have to turn this into a show car cruiser and give in and get a fox body to go racing. At least if i break one of those it is easy fixed and doesn't cost tons of money. Hell i don't think a 13.3 is all that bad of a run when u sping the rod bearings. the car has ton of potential i just don't have deep enough pockets.

NAWWWWW...I think you should just give me your car.

I WANT YOUR CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sucks what happened, though.

Clearances?

Who built the engine and what were the rod journal clearances? Was oil pressure OK? Spun bearings had to be due to some engine building problem IMHO.

Man that sucks, right when you get it to the track things seem to go wrong.

What kind of MPH did it turn?

Rev, you only gained 1mph w/ the heads?

I was in a hurry when i wrote that but after further inspection here is what happened. The time turned out to be 13.3 at 102 mph. The 60ft was 2.1 so i can gain a couple tenths there with better traction but that is not the story. A nut on the shifter linkage came off and when i went to shift into 3rd at 5700 it wouldn't go and while i was playing with the shifter the car went up to 6500 rpms (not built for that high rpm). That is when i left of the gas and costed on in the rest of the way. So i fiqured i was well on my way to a nice mid to low 12 second pass. Well on the return road i heard something rattling. Got back to the pits and started it up again and u could hear a knocking coming form inside the motor. It was obvious that a rod was beating up against the crank. Time for a rebuild. I see that cost high performance has a storker kit for fe motors so i will problay just send the motor over to those guys and have them do it them so i don't have to deal with it. NOw i just gotta save up the money. The thing that sucks is i was looking forward to taking it to kansas with me but hey that is the way it goes.

Thats a shitty situation. It sounds like a good investment would be a MSD6al to keep that thing from over revvin.

6500rpms on a 428? You should consider yourself lucky to only have a spun rod bearing and not a rod through the block. Gotta be careful on those old FE engines. The redline is really the redline.

Sorry to hear of the problems, but a rev limiter is probably a good idea. Hope you have better results next time.
