Got my Nittos!

Okay, just letting you guys know I got the NT555Rs, 275/50/15s, on the 15x8 Welds. Looks great and privides more needed traction. I can tell I will have to play around with them a little concerning how hot I need to get them and tire pressure. Man, I can really tell these tires operate/perform according to temperature. Anyway, any tips from experience with these tires on getting the best performance possible from them is casually appreciated.

Oh yeah, I went to the local cruise strip Sat. night and there was this guy in a 200x GT who put on Cobra R ground effects and spoiler (STILL PRIMERED--NOT PAINTED). *sigh*

Anyway, just remembered, I gotta update my sig. Later peeps....

And here's another. Just in case you were wondering how that size/brand tire would look on a 15x8" Weld wheel.

Whoa

That looks really good man. I know my bro (budman94gt) has been saving up to get some so i hope his looks as good as yours.

merc?? This is the FOX. ;)

Man, about 30 minutes ago, I stopped on the hwy and heated the tires up a little. Did okay, but I tried it again. This time I must have done it just right b/c I was able to give it ALOT more throttle off the line and it hooked REALLY well. Okay, I think I'm figuring them out. This is the first time I've had drag radials on the car so this is the first time I've felt it's full potential from a dead stop. Man, in combo with the shift kit, this car has some MONSTER torque. HA ha ah ha. I'm happy. Yes, yes. My back was slightly aching after a few runs (3).

Here's my experience with them...

I have the same size but on a 7.5" wheel, so they aren't planted quite as flat and therefore the traction suffers.

When I first got them, I went to the track and heated them up decent but not a whole lot. Couldnt cut better than a 2.0x 60ft time.

After that, I talked to a few people and they said they really need to be heated up to hook well. The next time, I tried this but the track sucked because a lot of ricers go there and drag the water from the burnout box up to the start line. so my 60ft didn't get any better, although i was really burning the tires up

Then I finally made it to a good track. By this time the tires had about 2/3 of its tread left and were starting to hook well. I made about 11-12 passes, all with a smoky burnout and cut mid 1.8sec 60ft times. But I wasn't aware that I didnt need to smoke them alot to get them to hook after they are so worn. This caused me to waste alot of tread and I left the track with about 1/3 tread left :(

So once your tires start hooking well, don't burn them as much, just do about a 3-4 second burnout and your all set.

By the way, most people run between 14-18psi. Mine were best at 15

hope this helps

I love my Nitto drag radials. I have so much more traction its not even funny. I will only spin in 1st with the drag radials. With normal street tires, THIS happens. :-D

Fox Body 01-29-2002 04:53 AM

Yes! Thank alot fiveohpatrol, that's exactly the kinda advice I need (the little hints and stuff that only come from someone else's actual experiences with them).

I plan to try BFGs next time 'round, but the Nittos were just easier to get in a short amount of time. Also, since I bought the '91, I usually only drive the '79 stang Fridays-Sundays (probably a little less now since I got the nittos) and since they have more tread on them, it persuaded me more towards that tire.

The other tires I used to have, when the car shifted from 1rst to 2nd, you couldn't feel it shift hard at all, b/c it was spinned over instead of putting the torque to the ground (and they still have a lot of tread on them). With the nittos, it's a totally diff story during the shift! But don't try a hard launch on cold nittos, though cause that's spin city. I learned that one...

Rebel, good, FINALLY, another video. :D.

Having Fun around a corner It didn't come out like I expected... I had a bit more traction than I needed. :-D And yes that was second gear.

So when are we going to see some videos of your car Fox Body?

Aaah, new videos. Great!

Now about me, I have put a few on here, just seemed like not too many people gave a crap :D. No new videos, though (I'm too lazy to go and do something), but when I take it to the track late next week, I'll post them here. Here's the videos I posted b4. Nothing spectacular, though.... The sizes are in the 1-2 MB range so sorry dial-up folks...

Doughnut Video (about a year ago, b4 paint, new 'glass hood, shift kit, Nittos)

Cruise (during late summer of '01, b4 new 'glass hood, Nittos, shift kit)

WOT (during late summer of '01, b4 new 'glass hood, Nittos, shift kit)

..sorry bout taking so long to reply.
