basic mustang info!

Well, I am looking towards purchasing a mustang now, i've always wanted one, since i was a kid and I had a few questions...

How many HP does the 1994-1997 Mustang GT's produce?
4.8L right? How many MPG does it get?

It looks like the 5.0 cobra's are out of my price range, and the Coupes just dont produce enough power! (I think it was 145 for the 1994 model).

Can anyone give me just the most basic info? I have searched everywhere online and can't find crap.

What are the main differences between the 1994 from 1995, etc...

Thanks in advance,
-Alan

79-93 were called "foxbody" mustangs, 94-95 had the same drivetrain 5.0 motor, 96-present have 4.6 liter, 94+ are all considered "sn95" body styles. Foxbodies also have hatchbacks (most common 86-93) then notchbacks like mine, with a trunk.

What are you looking for? a car that can be raced? just cruised? a showcar? racecar?

Of course the foxbodies are available in 4cyl engines? and the newer with v6's.

And to answer you last question, 94 and 95 really are almost the same, as far as drivetrain options.

and MPG is decent on v8 stangs IMO as well, just not gonna get better mileage then a 4cy import, but who cares?;)

Mustang info

Alan:

The information you seek is readily available on the internet.

Just use Google as a search engine and type in 'Mustang'.
You should get hundreds of websites, then comb through them for the specific info you seek.

I'll attempt to get you started:

The 94-95 Mustang GT came with a 5.0 litre V-8 and produced 205 (factory rated) HP. MPG was around 18 overall, maybe 25 highway.
If gas mileage is important to you, you're looking at the wrong car. A V-8 Mustang is not an economy car
it's a performance car and although it gets reasonable mileage, it's no Honda Civic.

From 1996-on the Mustang V-8 used in the GT was a 4.6 litre SOHC version rated @ 215 HP in '96-97. The Mustang was also available with a 6-cylinder engine in a non-GT version.

The 96-97 Mustang Cobra had a DOHC 4.6 V-8 and was rated @ 305 HP.

The 1993 5.0 Mustang Cobra was rare (less than 5,000 built) and very underated at only 235 HP. Great car.

Hope this helps and good luck with your search.

1994-1995 Mustang GT. 5.0L (4.9L) overhead valve pushrod V-8. 215hp/285lb/ft.

1994-1995 Mustang Cobra 5.0L (4.9L) overhead valve pushrod V-8. 240hp/280lb/ft. Those ratings are conservative. 260hp is more like it.

1996-1997 Mustang GT. 4.6L single overhead camshaft V-8. 215hp/285lb/ft. The 4.6L makes it's power higher up than the 5.0, and is weaker in the 1/4 mile.

1996-1998 Mustang Cobra. 4.6L dual overhead camshaft 32 valve V-8. 305hp/300lb/ft.

1998 Mustang GT. 4.6L single overhead camshaft V-8. 225hp/300lb/ft. A couple minor changes boosted hp on the 98's.

man, you guys are such great help...

well, i am looking for a car that doesn't need much mod's to produce a lot of HP. this will be a daily driver, so im contemplating whether it is a good buy considering i need to drive to get to school, work, etc. everyday...

anyone got some pics of the difference in body between the 94+95's and 96 and ups??

i like the 96 taillights a little better. i cant stand those lines on the 94 taillights, yuck!

and hey, do the mustangs that aren't convertibles come with sunroofs?

thanks for all the info guys!

The body style of 94-98 mustangs are the same. The only difference are the emblems and the tail lights. If you get a 94-95 mustang you can change the tail lights to the 96-98 ones.

I personally would look into 94-95 mustangs because they have the tried and true 5.0L engine. It is very easy to modify and the parts are cheaper. I might be biased, I don't know. Hope this helps.

SN95 Mustangs

Alan

I would strongly urge you to consider the 5.0-equipped '94-95 Mustang.

The 5.0 is dependable and easily and fairly cheaply modified for more power and performance - the 4.6 is a lot harder to mod in some areas (mainly the heads) and parts are often more expensive.

You can easily switch the tailights over to a '96 version; junkyards should have a used set at a fairly reasonable price and tailights don't get any real wear so they would look near-new.

Apparently I inadvertently transposed 5.0 & 4.6 HP numbers in an earlier message but Unit 5302 corrected them in his message; without comment. Class act.

Thanks Kell.
