Going to race a Z28

I am supposed to have a friendly race with my '00 GT against my buddy's girlfriend's '97 Z28. It is an auto and has a cold air kit, 'SS gears', and a shift kit. How fast can I expect this car to run? I run in the high-13s right now with a good launch.
He claims that she 'spanks Mustangs all day', but most of the stangs she races are pretty stock 5.0s and 96-98 GTs.

It will most likely be close....I dont remember if the 97's are LS1's or LT1's.....If its an LT1 you will most likely win but if its an LS1 I hope you can drive really goooooood:eek:

StoplightWarrior 01-30-2002 12:59 AM

The 97's are LT1's and with her mods, expect mid 13's. They're no LS1's, but they're definitely no joke either.

Even with my mods, I still respect LT1's.

Her mods should be enough for consitant 13.9s-14.0s @ 99-100

It sounds like it will come down to driving, then. I'll let you guys know what happens.

Kick some ***. Stay calm, get a good launch and run her hard.

Blue00GT, unbolt the passenger seat, back seat, sun visors, ash tray, empty the trunk and dump every thing else in the car you won't need during the race. Run your tank down until it almost on E, then add 3 to 4 gallons of 93 or 94 octane and a botle of 104 + Octane booster. Just do all of the "sneaky, little cheat tricks". Line 'em up. Rip off the line and swing for the fences!

Mid 13's? Yeah right, not with those mod's.

302 LX Eric 02-06-2002 09:51 AM

I'd skip the 93-94 octane + 104 booster. Unless you plan on bumping your timing way up it really isn't going to help you. Higher octane will effectively "delay" fuel combustion - your GT is meant to run on 87.

Good luck with the race and keep us posted on the results.

I agree that it will come down to driver, with the mods listed it will probably go 13.8 or so. Get a good launch and it should be interesting.

My money is on you.

hey blue00gt, remember half the battle is in the mind, and speed is a by product. unless she is a regular at the friday night strips and shows up with slicks, i don't expect too many problems. take her to school...

I'm sorry to bring this up but i was thinking about it and laughing.

There is only one thing to do. You have to get 2 big bottles of NOS. Also be extra careful that the floorboards are bolted on good and tight. :p

I agree.
You should be able to take her unless you pooch it hard.

ReefBlueCoupe 02-08-2002 05:57 PM

i wonder what he meant by 'SS gears'

probably just meant 3.42

slow98 02-09-2002 11:05 AM

you should waste her

you should have no problem, i have a 98 with 373s a c&l 80mm maf, steeda shifter, offroad h and flowmaster cat back and beat an auto 97 by like 2 car lengths on our service road 1/4 mile hehe, plus alot of girls just put it in drive and go, and with out a chip, its sad, go for it man, ur car will smoke mine unless u just cant drive and i had no problem

Nitrous Al 02-11-2002 09:41 PM

When are you going to race the Z28?

blue00gt 02-12-2002 05:08 PM

Unfortunately, my car is at the dealership right now (I posted about it in mod madness). For some reason it's just laying over at high rpms - I can keep my foot to the floor in 2nd and it won't go over 5200 rpms. Sounds like there is a slight exhaust leak, but that shouldn't cause the car to totally die at high rpms. It seems like it might be a computer problem, but no check engine light. Sometimes it sounded like it was pinging a little also at full throttle.
Luckily my drivetrain is stock still, so they should fix it under warranty.

blue00gt 02-13-2002 05:37 PM

Well, it turned out that a cat was plugged from being damaged when I bottomed out. I ordered long tubes and matching h-pipe and will be installing them this weekend. Then I'll go out and show this Z28 what my car's anus looks like :D .

ReefBlueCoupe 02-13-2002 06:00 PM

Longtubes on a 4.6.

It's going to be a looooooooong weekend, but I wish you luck.
