Almoast done with the blower!!
Well, as some of you may remember some posts i made a month or two ago asking questions about superchargers, well, my ATI kit is in! After some big hassle with the jerk that sold it to me, making intercooler mounts and buying bolts and what have you, the kit is finaly together. I even scored some autometer gauges. (which probably will make it harder to hussle the rice crowd) But at any rate, I'm going to the track on friday, and I was just wonderin what you guys would think i would run.
14 LB pulley, 2 core horizontal intercooler on an ATI kit 30 lb/hr injectors 255 lph fuel pump MSD 6AL Ignition Granatelli Mass air meter configured to the 30 lbers My car is an otherwise stock GT autmoatic convertable. I'll be in seguine, TX (River city race way). If anyone is in the area, come say hi. -dino |
well, i hope you put down some good #'s, because i plan on running the same set up you have.
how much did the kit cost, and how much did everything else cost? is it the p1sc? I would expect about a 12.0 or better running 14psi(with traction). |
I payed 2000 for the kit, but I bought it used. No, it is not the self contained unit. Here is some advice. Never buy a supercharger used unless you know the person well. Self contained blowers are half the hassle of a non-sc blower. this kit new is 3300 dollars.
my friends are betting around low 14's since my car has a stock rear... but i'm hoping for better times. |
Cool a bad *** 14psi kit!!!!
With 30lbs injectors do you will run a FMU or a chip or anithing else?? With no boost retard what is your base timing What pressure do you will set your fuel?? |
Well, unless you have a built AOD, you will be kissing it goobye if you do many passes.
89ATI has a 89 GT vert T-5 with a procharger (not sure which one), he has broken well into the 12's with it with 11psi i believe. His car is otherwise stock, except for gears and exhaust. I'd guess you'll hit mid-high 13's at somewhere around 102mph. Slap a lentech AOD and PI stallion converter in there and you could probably get 12's after you get some gears and exhaust too. That vert really needs some chassis stiffening too, atleast get some subframes asap. |
Hmm this is going to be interesting, a stock motor with 14psi. Hmmmm I don't think it will last too long. I sure hope you upgraded your stock fuel pump. Otherwise you might as wel pull out a rod now. Good luck at the track... track results should be interesting. Especially with no boost retard!
My advise... RETARD TIMING! |

That is cool! I bet you can't wait.
Ease into the tuning or you will run into some expensive problems before your tranny hits second. Hook those gauges up before you lay into it. Flying blind is a dice roll at best. Even if you get Keith's guys to tune it for you, the weather changes we have had (from hot to cold and back) may throw you over from ok to broken parts land. If I can get a pass from my wife, I'll look for you on Friday. |
Good comments above.
Are you running a BTM? If not, dial down the timing. Is the 14lb rating at the intake or the blower? If at the blower, you will lose ~3lbs through the intercooler - not that this is a bad thing. On a stock motor, 14# is ALOT. I know that mags have done this, but that is with some serious on site tuning by experienced mechanics. Just be careful! Have you had your car tuned? Plug gap should be ~.035 and should be at least one heat range cooler. How is the car idling? Are you running an FMU? Sorry for all the questions, but I've been away from the site for a couple weeks and haven't followed along with your install. Good luck, E |
As I said FUEL PUMP, and 6:1 FMU!!!!!!! Boost retard is a must and set your timing to 8° with the the btm as well! Rick was correct, get 1 range colder plugs and gap them to .035, but if you don't have the fuel, say good bye head gaskets and/or a rod. TRUST ME on this. This is not my first motor. ;)

With my 14# kit I was seeing 14 on the gage. The kits are rated after the intercooler not before. I ran a best of 12.7 @ 112 with a stock motor 19# injectors with dynomax exhaust and 3.55 gears. The car with me in it weighed about 3700 lbs. If you run much more than 10* timing you will get the head gaskets to start leaking into the radiator. I could bump up the timing if I used 105 octane. You should run about 13.5 with a mild tune.
|
I thought you had your 11# pulley on that day at US41. Isn't that when you ran the 12.7?
|
I ran a 12.9 with the 11 pulley. I was still tuning on it when I put the 14 on. I think I could have run just as fast with the 11. I just sold the blower to a guy in Spokane WA. I am going to try to go 12's N/A now.

i thought the hypo pistons in the 93's didnt take well to boost??

I agree with the posts above, however I have run 12.5 @108 with a 9# intercooled kit (2 Core) and 19# injectors. I have an FMU and BTM. My base timing is set at 9-10. I have never lost a head gasket. Be sure that you run good fuel--I never go below 94 Octane. I also do not push the car when it is very hot.
When I first got the kit my car was an AOD car with a P.I. Converter. I went through 2 AOD's that summer - 2 passes down the 1/4. If your AOD is stock then you better trailer your car because it will not last. I put in a C-4 and have made many passes with not trouble. Good luck--please post you times!! |

Hi all, sorry for the short lapse, i've been dealing with the car. Yes, I upgraded the fuel pump... The only thing I havent done is gap the plugs, which I will do tomorrow. Everything is hooked up and the whistle is incredibly mean. I did go to the track today, and it was alot of fun as usual, but I didnt bring the car. Tomorrow i'im hooking up the gauges, gaping the plugs, and whatever fine tuning is needed on the install. After that starts the tuning. Oh yeah, I have an FMU installed as well. I think I will do okay on fuel, and just for kicks i'll retard the timing to 8 degrees and throw in some octane booster. As far as transmission goes... well... I am as of now looking into it. Is it possible for me to pull one off for less than say, 900 dollars? So anyway, thats the short of it.
Oh by the way, to those that have gone this route before: about how long do I have on this tranny under normal street driving before it goes? |
