When to shift with stock cam
Knda self explanatory
Just wondering where should I shift at with a stock cam Some windsor senior heads and stock intake Around 5200? |
I would try a few My car liked it at 5400-5500 with stuff like headers And good EX.
|
i'd go a little bit higher, but not much, maybe 5300-5400.
the best way to tell is at the strip, go up with shift points until you slow down, then you'll know by the way, is this on the factory tach or an aftermarket one? because when my autometer is at 5400, my factory one is about 5800. Just something to think about |
Track / dyno is a good place to see where you're making power.
Keep in mind that the stock cam is not meant for high rpm power, rather more low-mid end torque. 5200-5300 is a good starting point. Good luck, E |
I use to shift at 5200 and used to trap at 98.2mph but shifting at 4950-5000 I trap at 99.4mph.
|
Actually I used to shift at 5300 rpm but I definately trap better now shifting at 4950-5000
|
with the AFR heads, stock cam and 1.7's... I shift at 6000.. might go higher since it looked like the HP was peaking there on the dyno... of you have good heads... you should be able to pull to 5500-6000... btw, the tach in my 84 is right on... ;-)
