From what I have heard the 5.0's have a traction lok differential. This means that when one wheel begins spinning the other wheel will begin to move. It isnt a direct posi. I usually launch at like 2000 on the street and it goes but i ahve never been to a track before so I dunno if it is different.

How does that relate at all? No intentions to flame, but please think before you post.

Anyways...I used to shift mine stock at ~5100 rpm but as previously mentioned there are variances in each car. As for the launch, higher revs (2000-2500) while riding the clutch works well, but will drastically shorten the life of your clutch. Best thing to do is to make a trip to the track and try different methods to suit your driving style/car.

It was a small attempt at some humor. Before you can tell me to think before I post, run a 14.4. :p

i didn't think that was funny....just figured u was trying to hate on me asking a question...but i guess its alright =) hehe..(not laughing at ur 'joke')

There was actually supposed to be one of these ;) at the end of it. But anyways.....the name of the game is traction, If your planning on going to the strip alot get some slicks, if your going to do alot of street racing(which I discourage.) then you will want Drag radials, you don't have to have them, but hooking up is how you win most of the time.

Back to your original question, there isn't really a "SET" rpm to launch at, you just have to practice, your gears, tires and the way you drive will be a factor, just practice launching at different rpm's and you'll see what works best for you.

WHY would I try and "hate on you" for asking a question? Geez guys, lighten up.

All I said was:

Get some slicks and launch at 5k.

You two are acting like I went off on you.

Beavis 02-09-2002 04:57 AM

Well, it seemed as if u were trying to... but if u did, i dont mind...and since you didn't, its all good :)

thnks for the tip on the tires though, and i'd probably b doing more street then track. I think the closest track is like at least an hour away...prob 3hrs..

1BAD89 02-09-2002 12:57 PM

What kind of tires are you running now? What size?

6T9PONY 02-11-2002 12:56 AM

jonnyk.....relax man. Everything's gonna be okay.

K how about with my combo listed blow with my 3.73 gears

I cant hook at all

THe guy before me had et streets on it and it hooked alto better but i dont know if i need wider rims or what?

I have an air bag and adjustable shocks but i cant get any traction with eh biggest firestone tires i can find that are as sticky as i can get before running near slicks.

THey are on the pony rims

Also How much help would movin my battery to rear really help?

SHould I just throw some weight in the back so i dont spin for forever its horrible peopel wiht alot less power can beat me because i jsut sit there and i cant really ride the clutch in as with i go to second anyway aif i floor it it jsut spins

ALl suggestions would be helpful

Beavis 02-13-2002 06:51 PM

HUH?

1BAD89 02-13-2002 07:03 PM

vetteeatr Moving the battery to the back would help quite a bit, look on my site, I got a brand new one for sale.;)
