Great run with a '01 Cobra...gotta see this

Thursday night after class at 10 pm i get in the '86 and wonder if i'll get a run on the way home. Thrusday night a lot of people here in south Florida are looking to mess around. About 10 min later i spot a beautiful '01 Cobra, Dark red color, factory crome wheels. dealer tags, and his girl is in the car. i was drooling.

I'm behind him at a light and he gives a quick rev...sounds stock, but i was still intimidated. We have to follow each other and just jockey around alittle b/c of traffic. this actually boosted my confidence some what.

My turn comes up and i hope he takes it also b/c it runs onto another 3 lane road that is great for a run b/c people can't turn onto it. I'm at the light with him behind me (i'm the first car). My legs are shaking because i'm thinking, i'm gonna get my headlights sucked out. ha ha. We make the turn and he doesn't make a move. I'm like ok, no biggie----then the light changes up ahead to red! He pulls to my right and a 98 and up V-6 camaro pulls up on the left of me reving his motor. so its the camaro, me, '01 Cobra.

We approach the light and i gear down to first and i'm thinking when the light changes i'm nailing it. We get about 10 feet from the light, 5 mph, and it changes green. i nail it and spin 'em over a few times and i hear the Cobra on it. Click 2nd and i look to my right for the Cobra---nothing there. 5K comes up.....powershift 3rd---nice crip from the tires. look in my rearview and see the diver's side headlight in my reaview and he is falling back slowly. 5k comes up and powershift 4th. the '86 lunged forward at the shift and i look in my rearview to see BOTH headlights on the Cobra! Run through 4th and i see the slow pull i had stop. Check the speedo---- it reads 85 and i hit the brakes. Cobra comes flying up beside me and nails the brakes. we stay say by side were i rev back at him to 5k and click it back in 3rd (we're runnign 45 now). we both kick it and stay dead even til 85 again. we both hit the brakes and he pulls off.

i gave a couple honks and was in shock over the run. I thought i was going to get murdered after hearing how well the 01's are running. Goes back to the old rule i guess...anything can happen in a race!

Sounds awesome man, good job.:)

EZRIDN 02-09-2002 03:14 PM

Thanks man. It was one of my best kills.

StoplightWarrior 02-09-2002 04:07 PM

Damn! Congrats! You've got a strong GT on your hands. You must be able to drive like a mofo too!

96SNAKE 02-09-2002 06:43 PM

Great job EZ! Anything definitely can happen out there. ;)

I haven't been overly impressed with the 01's despite the power numbers they put out on the dyno. I think that independent rear makes them goofy. Solid axle for me.. :p

What

I don't see how that guy would lose to you. Those cars are mid 13s to low and you stated that you are a 14 flat. Either he can't drive for crap or he was giving it all he had.
But hey, either way you at least beat the Camaro.
Good run.

Hey back off, anything can happen on the street.

Milktasd 02-09-2002 10:12 PM

sorry

I didn't mean to be overbearing. I was just typing my thoughts. Just seems weird to me he would win. But you are right, anything can happen on the street. Sorry.

I would have to agree with the anything can happen on the street, but I can also understand the suprise at EZRIDN's victory.

Car vs Car, if both are working properly there is no way the 86GT is going to pull on the 01 Cobra. The new Cobra has the trap speed by 5mph. Driver means a ton though, and in this case, looks like EZRIDN made all the difference there needed to be.

Nice kill.

Thanks guys for all the posts. It is hard to believe, and i bet you no one was more shocked than myself. I did drive my car like it was stolen so that helped. ha ha. I called Sedanman from here right after it happened b/c i was so excited. It was a great run and hopefully i will see the guy again b/c the race was pretty close to home and he turned into a neighborhood that is close to me.

I figure since it had the dealer tags on it (which added to the sweetness of the victory) it probaly had the stock gears. You Cobra guys can chime in and say how the Cobra performs with stock gears from a 5 mph roll. My car has the low-end grunt that 5.0s do with gears so i figure that helped me get momentum and a early lead which he couldn't make up.

Thanks again guys. I did order a pizza in honor of the victory. ha ha.

I posted a kill a while back, at the track i ran an 01 vert cobra, he said he had a kennybrown pakage on it, i was on street tires, ran 14.1 (spun) he ran 14.3, he asked me what gears he should get and some go faster questions, i recomended the live axle of course, and 373......good kill, a fox body that can run 14.0 or better will have them outta the hole, no doubt, and if you can keep the lead, anything is possible.

96SNAKE 02-10-2002 12:19 PM

Unit is right! There should be no way the GT should pull on the Cobra despite what I think of its independent rear.

My guess is that since it still had dealer tags on it he didn't know how to drive the thing right and like EZ said, he drove the hell out of his car. The Cobra guy probably doesn't know he has to shift at redline for the thing to really haul... The stock gears aren't too bad for stop light races imho either. When I had them, I could launch fairly well and run all the way to 60+ in first gear, making less shifts an advantage with that 7000rpm r-line.

EZRIDN 02-10-2002 02:57 PM

Yea those stock gears might be ok 96. Anyhow....that nice car payment he probaly has might be tough to write when he thinks about the stock lookin' '86 that pulled him. Like i said i wanted to pull over, but he turned into that neighborhood so hopefully i will run into him later.

Dark_5.0 02-10-2002 03:21 PM

When I was running a 15.2 @88mph I beat a 2001 cobra at the track . I took him off the light and when he caught me he hit the rev limiter and kinda missed a gear and we finished with him just inches behind me.

A car is only as good as the guy behind the wheel..

venumus93 02-10-2002 08:46 PM

EZRIDN:
Nice kill, man! Driver does make all the difference, & you def run your car well! Keep posting the kills, it's gettin' thin on here! Later!

1969Mach1 02-10-2002 09:19 PM

A Kill is a Kill, and a very nice one. Driver makes alot of difference. If you can beat a car that is supposed to beat you then you should be proud. Anyone can have a fast car not many can drive them.

Congrats.
§am.

Hyper92GT 02-11-2002 05:21 PM

Awesome kill. Sounds like a blast. My car has been in storage since Oct :(
In any event to 85mph is prob. 1/8 of a mile, where all races are won.
good race!!

sedanman 02-11-2002 05:25 PM

I first must say the Ezridn drives the snot out his car's! When he called me, you would have thought he had won the lottery! I was real suprised to hear about the one going down the road, but who knows how good the other driver was. Also if it had dealer plates the motor probably has not broken in all the way.

Anyways nice kill

But in a month when I drag the coupe down there you get to post about getting Killed :D

Skyman 02-11-2002 07:37 PM

Thats where it happens on the street wehere you can beat the fast cars.
