Raced a wrx at the track

Went to friday night test and tune at the local 1/8 mile and first set of cars was me and a bright blue wrx. I did my usual second gear burnout and rolled up to the line. He was already there and set to go so i took my time and turned top bulb on the brought my r.p.ms up to where i leave and just rolled enough to lite second lite then was set. The lights came down and i expected to see him jump ahead cause of his a.w.d, but when i hit second and looked over he wasn't there I looked in my side mirror and could see him coming,so i just hit 3rd and finished ahead of him. When i got the time slip i saw what happened. I got a good light and he was way late my .529 to his 1.167 my time was 8.75 to his quicker 8.51. this was at 6:00 and sun was just setting, later on that night he was running quicker so i'm glad i caught him when i did or it would have been different.

i ran 8.75@80.22 to his 8.51@80.12 my 60' time was 1.97 and he had 1.85, i though he would have gotten a lower 60's time with being a.w.d

Jeez, 8.51 is pretty quick for a WRX in the 1/8 isn't it? Is it stock? The one I raced at the track ran 14.3/92 in the 1/4 mile. Seems like an 8.51 should be mid-low 13's. That would be smokin for a WRX.

They run really well in the 1/8-mile because of the AWD, but they don't have enough horsepower to run better than 14s stock in the 1/4.

this is a post of his i found. He had a sticker from i-club.com and I went there and found him there so i know it is same person.

He is heavily modded cause that 1/8th mile time is a 13.28 in the 1/4 more than likely he had nitrous.

1/8mi(1.56)=1/4mi time

I raced one at my local track. He had increased the boost and fuel on his WRX. It was a blue one too. (Are they all that blue color?)

Anyways, he left me standing at the line - he had a 1.6 or 1.7 60' to my 2.2. But, I reeled him in pretty quickly thereafter. I think he ran a high 13 or low 14 @ 99 or so. I can't remember the numbers exactly, but regardless they are a great 1/8 mile runner. The 1/4 is a different story though. :D

I was gonna post a subject on what i need to beat one of these, a guy i talk to on another board has a wrx, he was running 13.6 so i told him it would be a close race with us, and we should run, he agreed, but now he posted his best 13.2@ 101!! no n20 that I know of.

I will have to post in windsor forum, but im thinking of beefing up my rear suspension to get my 60' times down with some 373 grs also, and i should have him, also thinking of forgeting the gears and control arms, and adding a 75 shot, im on a budget, but dont want to lose against one of these.

Don't let the WRX Nazis fool you...

With equal drivers:

Stock for stock, our GT will still beat the WRX in the 1/8th.

And utterly kill it in the 1/4....

As Eric stated, a boost\fuel increase will get them to compete in the 1/8th with their AWD, but it still won't have the HP\power band in the 1/4 to keep up....

I was at the track last year and some guy in a modded WRX asked me if I was ready to get beat.

I said "Sure, but it won't be you who beats me..." ;)

Yall are not making any since to me I have heard they run a 14.3 stock in the 1/4.

Most stock stangs i have seen dont go 14.3 in the 1/4

So where is the logic that they are no match in the 1/4

It seems to me that they haul @ss off the line to accomplish they're excellent 1/8th mile times and then cross the 1/4 mile in a very respectable time.

My brother ran a 13.8 @92 is he no match in the 1/4 either???

Coupe5oh 02-13-2002 12:09 AM

Well this guy traps 101mph, i think with an explorer intake, 70 tb, and some 1.7rr's, i can get an extra 2 mph and give him a good run, possibly pull him on the top.

Dark,
I'm talking about a STOCK WRX here...

I've seen MANY of them at the track, and with an average driver a stock WRX will usually net a high 14... pretty respectable

But considering that Joe Blow can granny shift a GT to a low 14, put in equal drivers and the stang's gonna win...

I guess I might have a bit of a chip on my shoulder from driving an early modular.... To this day I still get these snide comments from ricers and Camaro guys who don't even LOOK at my car other than the body style.

All in all, the WRX is a quick little car, but in most cases, its far from a stang killer...
