loc-wire or O-ringed (photo)
Are these heads grooved for loc-wire?
or are they machined for O-ring? http://www.dariusrudis.com/mustang/e...ds/heads11.jpg |
From the photo it looks like you have a groove machined to receive a loc-wire. However, it is really hard to tell from the photo. Look at the head, and if it has a ring inserted into the groove and protruding out about .010" than they are o-ringed. If you just have a receiving groove than they're set-up for loc-wire gaskets most likley.
This is a pic of my head. It is o-ringed and has the ring there, but you can't really tell by the photo whether it does or not either that well... http://www.danmcclain.com/photos/heads/engine-132.jpg |
Here are two more close-ups of the .080 wide cut:

if it has a groove cut into the heads (which it seems like it does) its for a loc-wire. as long as it does not have an actual ring that sticks out of the head then it is for sure set up for a loc-wire. good pictures and post by the way!
hope it helps, adam |
Thanks fo rthe replies (here and private).
I will be using fel-pro1006 loc wire or trick flow tfs-51400905. |
The groove for lockwire gaskets must be .010" deep and the tolerance is +/-.001.
I recently called felpro because I had an issue with the depth of my grooves and they faxed me the spec sheet for the machining. You can call them or I could fax it to you tomarrow. It's at work. BTW don't know if you have TFS heads but their instruction sheet has the same info about the .010 depth. Dan |
Yeah, Darius just got the same head set-up that I have on my car - Stage II TFS Aluminum Twisted Wedge heads. Mine are CNC stage II race ported by Fox Lake Power Products. I'm not sure of the exact details on his though. Obviously now, mine were o-ringed and his are loc-wired though.
Darius, bring those suckers over here and lemme see 'em! ;) |
According to Dan, and Greg Banish www.detroitspeedworks.com , and TFS:
Yes, those heads have the O-ring groove in them. Use Fel-Pro # 1006 headgasket..... Thanks, Artie Kakiou, Technical Advisor Email: akakiou@Trickflow.com Tele: 330-630-1555 Ext: 6324 Ok, ok. Just making sure! Thanks. |
