Soldering 101
I'm getting ready to put my PA-PERFORMANCE 130 amp alternator on and just wanted to make sure I don't screw anything up. I already have the power wire connected, and the three alternator wires are stripped and crimped as per directions. All I have to do is solder each wire onto the ends that were provided.
Is there anything that could go wrong when I'm doing this or is it pretty straight forward?? Also, in the directions, it said hat soldering is not necessary but is recommended for a good electrical connection. Is there any way I can screw this up or am I in the clear?? |
Soldering is pretty straight forward. Just make sure you get the connection hot enough with the iron (or torch) that the solder flows over it easily.

Always disconnect the battery when working on electrical stuff just to be safe. RAY

Dont heat the SOLDER with the gun, but heat the WIRE with the gun. Then have the solder melt and flow into the wire. Kind'a like a Bounty-quick-picker-upper. :)

I would solder all connections - I didn't solder the stater wire and it was loose causing the alt not to work right. Be carefull keep the srink tubing away from the heat. It's pretty easy to use a soldering iron or gun.

Thanks for the help guys. I got everything done and finshed. The alternator looks really good and I can't wait to see how much better it works compared to the stock P.O.S. one. I don't have to worry about the battery because it's been disconnected for the winter months.
