You talking about the friction modifier or some kind of miracle oil?

WADS56 02-14-2002 01:49 AM

You can find it in the parts store near the demagnatizing spray:rolleyes:

If you ever change your gear oil, you should put a bottle of it in your rear end.

Most high quality rear end oils come with differential friction modifier added to them already. Take a look on the bottle, it should say for use with limited slip rear differentials, or friction modifier added.

So are you saying your only able to spin one wheel most of the time?

You can get a trac lok rebuild kit for like $60-70. It comes with new clutches, steels, shims and a bottle of friction modifier.

I've heard the friction modifier actually hurts the diff's ability to "lock up" it supposedly lenghtens the life of it.

I put one of these rebuild kits in over the summer (mine was one-leggin it too) and it made an amazing difference. Before I could never get both wheels to spin while turning to the right and punching it, after I could do complete donuts to the left AND right.

Gentlemen! Friction Modifier is added to limited - slip rearends for one reason only....to help them slip. You take it from there.

he's right! if you dont use any gear oil with any modifier, thee clutches will stick together making chattering and and weird clunking noises when you turn, acting somewhat as if you have a spool in there. most gear oils do have the modifier in them.

I had to add it to mine after it was rebuilt. At first I just put in Mobil1 synthetic gear oil but it chattered and clunked every corner. Was driving me crazy (er?). I got the friction modifier at the local Ford dealer and it fixed all that chattering and clunking almost immediately after I added it and went around a few corners.

Ok fellas, I just freshend up the gear oil in my trak lok, a month ago, i also added some "posi trac" additive, I then put on some e.t. streets and went to the track, me, and my friend both noticed how i was smoking both of them in the waterbox, maybe it was coincedence, but they both spun until i let it start rolling then one would let go, but it seemed better, unless the SFC's helped?

Just use Red Line

Just use Red Line gear oil. I believe it is 75W90. That's it. Your done. Smells like @#%* though. Just like all gear oil.:(
