Strange fuel pump problem

Hi guys! My unmodified (so far...heheh :D ) 89' 5.0 has got a problem. After I tow my motorcycle on a 550lb or so trailer, I unload the bike and then start the car back up to move it back into the driveway. When I start it chugs and coughs for about 15 seconds, rendering it undriavable and then slowly goes back to normal. Eventually the fuel pump died on me and stranded me on the highway while I was towing. I got it fixed last year and now it's starting to do it again. Obviously, the fuel pumps need replaced again but is there anything else it could be?

Also is there a good place to get a genuine pump for a really good price? Thanks, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated:D

I've seen overheating do that before. You should hook a fuel pressure gauge up and find out what pressure is when you first start it up like that. Kinda almost sounds like a little vapor lock even.

You may be right...that time that it failed on the highway, I got stuck in some stop and go, then it went out a few minutes later. After about 1/2 hour later of letting it cool down (I really wish I knew to vent the gas tank) it started back up. The next day I had the pump checked and they said it was shot. If it was the fuel pump, wouldn't I have had or be having problmes all the time? Thanks!
