4 cylinder to 5.0 conversion

Last night I crank my car after a month of swapping parts. Just to give everybody a little back ground, here is what I have done: I bought a 89 coupe 4 cylinder and I gutted the car pretty much. I took a 87 GT parts car and swapped all the necessary parts over to make the coupe a V8. I got a 88 mass air harness and all my wiring matched up. I used the helms books for reference. The reason I did the swap was to keep busy from modifying my saleen to the point of no return. Now back to the future:

The car crank and ran fine for about 15 - 20 minutes!!! Then it just stopped running. I turned the key forward but the fuel pump did not come on. The car did crank over but no fuel pump noise etc. I checked the relay under the left seat and it was kind of warm, swapped it out and turned the key froward still no fuel pump. I think the pump died, it was the original 4 cylinder pump and my plans where to run it till it died., then replace it with a 190 pump for future upgrades. I also plan to get a fuel pressure regulator and fuel pressure gauge for the fuel rail. What do you guys think??? Did the pump die or is there something else I should check, when I bought the car somebody has spliced a black wire into the the harness that plugs into the fuel tank and grounded it to the rear bumper. I do not know if this was done because of past problems with the 4 cylinder fuel system. I replaced that harness with one from the 87GT parts car. Where is the ground for the fuel pump located?? I know there is a chasis ground some where. I have another fuel tank standing by to be setup for the new pump etc. Any suggestions would be appreciated???????? Thanks!!!!!!!! Sorry so long but I wanted to present the full picture......

did you check to see that the pump was getting voltage? if not, it could be a ton of things. most of them you probably know, fuse, ground, etc. if it is, it is the pump, IMHO

Just came home for lunch and decided to do some trouble shooting. I turned the key forward and the pump came on and the car crank. It ran for a little bit and then it died. Turned the key forward and nothing from the pump!!! I think it is the pump at this point!!! Anybody have any ideas???????

This is just a guess but it sounds like you may have some trash in it and it dislodges after sitting a while. Just an idea, hope it helps.

Just thought about it a sec and if the pump doesn't so anything after running a while. It definitely sounds like the pump is bad. I really don't see it being anything else. Did you see if it's getting voltage when it isn't running?

Dude, I was born in Albany GA!!!! Thanks for your suggestion!!! I swapped out the pump and it is working but I have not put the tank back up yet, I am planning on pulling the tank out of my parts car and putting in the 190 pump I ordered today!!! Everytime I turn the key now it works, so i will just have to test for a couple of days until my new pump arrives. I figured i should do the work for the blower now instead of twice!!!!
