3.55's or 3.73's?

Hi all,

I know this is an age old question but what one should I go with? I wasn't going to put gears in it but I posted a while ago as to wether or not I could beat a F350 Diesel truck w/my 93 GT and the reaction was mixed. Found a good mechanic that will help me do it so I'm going to go for it. Most people go with the 3.55's but I got a buddy who swears the 3.73's are uch better. I have 3.08's now.

Any opinioins?

Jayson

Go with the 3:73's, the highway rpm is just a little higher than 3:55's, not much at all though. I went with 3:55's on my 89 GT when I had a few mod's, and if I would've went with 3:73's I would have been running high 13's, instead of low 14's. With the 3:55's, I had to shift into 4th right before the traps....3:73's get my vote.

go with the 3.73 and a good tire and that truck will be seeing your taillights. i have 3.73 and drive mine daily and luv them, on the highy way i run around 70-75 and engine is around 2200-2300 rpm and i get around 25 mpg. people go with 3.55 cause they are thinking about gas mileage along with performance.

OK,

Thanks for the advice!

from what iv heard and read if your staying N/A 3.73' are the better choice but in a blown application 3.55's are better?

That's generally true.

Once you get well over 300 HP you no longer need as much torque multiplication and if you're driving a street car with street tires, the 3.73's can be overkill - but most people run them anyway as it's the gear ratio that seems to pull the best overall results from a Mustang V-8.

Your performance may vary.

I have been thinking about gears myself. Do you guys recommend the same for a car with an automatic?

I will dare to be different...I just got 4.10's in my 92LX Vert 5spd (from 3.08's), and THEY ARE AWESOME...I don't do much extended HWY driving, and around town I always seem to be in the right gear - instead of either lugging in a gear, or waiting forever for a gear to wind out.

I was one of the ones 'on the fence' 3.73 -vs- 4.10, and for the $ I spent to have it done I belive I would have been somewhat dissapointed if I went with 3.73.

Just my thoughts, it all really depends on how/when you drive your car.
