302 Ho???
how can i tell the difference between a regular 302 and a 302HO. what is the benefit of either??

You will probably have better luck with this question in the windsor forum. If I remember right, the 302 HO came out in 84. Could have been a bit earlier, not sure. Intially it was just a higher HP version of the 302 I think. By 87 it was a fuel injected, roller cam motor. If I was looking for a 302 I would try to find one of these just for the roller cam. I am sure others can tell you vastly more than I can about these motors. I don't know how you tell if you have an HO or not, but I beleive all v8 mustangs after 87 came only with the HO (except for a few rare proformance packages, eg. saleen 351.)

HO engine- same firing order as 351 w, roller cam, 50 oz inbalance, 19 lbs injectors, 60 mm tb some early ones 58 mm, shorty headers, e7 heads, forged pistons until 92, e6 block, better camshaft specs changed in 90 to even better ones, tension and thickness of rings changed, increased bore wall and deck material siamese bore in water jackets. hope this helps

the HO's were nice for the roller cams, but you can now buy retro kits, and cams and lifters to make a non roller block into a roller block.

We're still talking 215-225 HP 302's in stock form aren't we?

The first 5.0 H.O. was built in 1982, and was a 2bbl carbed, 157 hp monster with whopping 8.3:1 compression pistons! The H.O engine got a 4bbl carb in 1983, and it's hp went up to 175. In 1984 and 1985, the H.O. 5.0 was offered with either a 4bbl Holley or CFI. HP ranged from 165 to 210. Up to this point, all H.O. 5.0's had had flat tappet cams. 1985 was the first year a roller cam was used in some of the H.O. engines (4bbl H.O.'s had a roller, while CFI H.O.'s had a flat cam). In 1986, all 5.0 H.O. engines had a roller cam, and used sequential fuel injection with speed density. This would remain true until the California 5.0 H.O. in 1988 was released with a MAF system replacing the SD. In 1989, all 5.0 H.O.'s were MAF, and would remain that way until the 5.0 was laid to rest. The only things that made all H.O. engines different from the 1979 and older 5.0's was the use of a heavier weighted balancer and flywheel, and a camshaft with the firing order used in 351 (Cleveland and Windsor) and 460 engines.
