Compression question.

Well, I ran a comp test. #1=190 psi, #2=190 psi, #3=189 psi, #4=189 psi, #5=187 psi, #6=190 psi, #7= 189 psi, #8=190 psi. This test was done with the motor cold and all plugs out. motor was not run for 24 hrs and headers were unhooked ( had to change plugs and headers were in the way)

Do these figures look good for a 347 w low miles? can the 187psi be because of differences in the comp chambers? They're Windsor jr's. I run premium, could I get better et's with av gas...110 octane and timing raise? Also, I finally found the engine builder, in mass. he said the person that owned this car previous to me dumped alot of money into this car. I was told it had a billet crank, how does that compare to a forged crank? also told me it had some really high end rods, maybe eagle's. he's mailing mee all the invoices monday. If they are eagle rods, does eagle make good high end rods?

Sounds great. If its really got a billet crank and Eagle rods, you've got a great foundation there. Even if you sell the car somewhere down the road, I'd pull the motor and hang onto it. Billet cranks are expensive and Eagle rods aren't cheap. If the old owner went to that expense, I'd bet there's a bunch of top notch parts throughout.

The compression numbers are fine. As a matter of fact with only 3psi variation they're about as close to perfect as possible.

Ya, those numbers are really good. If you do have a billet crank and eagle rods, youve got a great setup. Given that you have all that, if you slap a girdle on that thing you could blow it.....as long as the pistons are good, which I'd bet they are comparable too the rest of the motor (good).

Can I get the name of the engine builder from Mass. b/c I live in Massachusetts and am having a hard time finding experienced shops that could give me some advice for my 393 combo?
