Aftermarket cam?

i really want to know if ne body has used or has any info on the use of an aftermarket cam with stock heads, and intake. i am currently looking into the E303. if it isnt a good idea with the heads being stock and the intake being stock will it work well with just the after market upper lower intake? basically if i got the gt-40 intake and a E303 cam would that work well with my set up? i dont want to change the heads yet, because i am in need of a new engine and i dont want to ruin new heads. i currently have an 89 gt 5 speed. thanks----- danny

It's hard to beat the stock cam for a stock engine. The e cam makes power in the upper rpm range right where your stock intake and heads start dying off. The e cam would be ok if you are going to put on better heads and intake. You won't ruin heads by running them on your engine and then putting them on a new engine.

I think your money would be better spent elsewhere. If you're in need of a new motor then you might as well do the cam when you do the motor. For now I'd suggest some headers or something like that instead, or the intake.

for that kind of setup it would be best to buy 1.7 rockers. that will increase your lift by.030. esentially giving you a b cam with stock duration which will make best power with stock heads and intake. since you plan on getting a new motor it would also be best since you will save money to get the best perf. and you wount have to rip the top half of the motor apart. you could get a 65mm throttle body to go with that too. simple but very effective. thats the key to building a good motor.
