Turning the OD off while driving....

how bad is it to do this, at say 20-65 mph, sometimes i see a potential race and i will turn the OD off to get ready , any opinions? by the way i have an automatic 99 gt

I don't think it's very bad for the transmission. I turn O/D off in my car on the highway occasionally and it's makes sort of a 'clunk' type of feeling. I just think this is because the tranny is downshifting out of O/D and into third. Check the owner's manual though it will say whether it is hard on the tranny or not.
