Buying advice

I am looking to get a new Mustang this spring to replace the one I sold last fall. Looking at getting a SN95 body style convertible 5-speed (I'd prefer yellow, not being picky am I) which leaves me with a 94-96 since I can't afford anything newer than that. So my questions are, what's a reasonable amount of miles for this car and around what price can I expect them to be, my budget's ~$7,000 so I'm thinking probably a '94.
Also, some friends have told me that 94-95 Mustangs have a lot of problems with steering components and with the engine. I always thought that it was the same motor from ealier models, which they recommended I buy instead. If you know of problems or anything else I should be aware of about the SN95's would be appreciated.

Never heard of any steering linkage problems. And the 94-95 motors are basicly the same as 87-93 motors, they have slightly different intakes and eletronics.

SN95 info

Philip:

The retail value of a '94 Mustang convertible is near $10,000. but a 'private party' price would be closer to $7,000. although you get no warranty.

Mileage for a '94 would be anywhere from 80 - 100,000 but a lower mileage car will cost noticably more. 80,000 to 90,000 miles would be reasonable, as that's 10,000 per year - on the low side. Expect to see 100,000+ mileage on some '94's.

The early SN95's had some fit and finish problems and a 8-year-old convertible will probably have some noticable rattles but nothing serious or that some tightening and a good set of sub-frame connecters won't help.

The engine is basically the same 5.0 as in earlier (87-93) models. Differences are minor. Stock 5.0 5-speeds ran high 14's, new. You may have a hard time finding a yellow convertible with a 5-speed but if you're willing to travel, that will help. Good luck.
