5w20 Oil????
 

Another Newbie...

Just got a 2002 GT 5spd last Friday and the recommended oil is 5w20.

I would like to use synthetic but the only 5w20 synthetic I have foud is a little expensive. Just wondering how much of a difference it would be to just use 5w30 synthetic instead.

Any other opinions on synthetic vs reg oil?

If you live in Dallas there is no way in Hell you need a 5W20 or 5Wanything!

Go with a 10W30 synthetic oil. I use Mobil 1 and like it. I recommend that.

A 5 weight oil is good if you're live in say...Edmonton, Alberta, Canada ;)

The only reason Ford uses that thin oil is because they found that they can get an extra MPG over 5w30. I have heard of many more engine problems than normal since they made this switch. '01+ Lightnings and Mustangs with low mileage are having engines replaced pretty often. I'd stick to 5w30 or 10w30.

Although I agree with the opinions above, remember this, if you are still under warranty and you grenade your engine, they will test the type of oil used and if it's not 5W20, you'll have a tough time getting warranty work done.

just drain that and put in some used 5w20 :D

anyway, this past summer I worked at a Ford Dealership's service dept and it was a pain in the butt changing oil on the ones that needed 5w20 because we didnt have a pump right there for it, I had to go get it out of a barrel and pour it in manually:cool:

I asked a few of the guys why they went to 5W20, and they said it was because Ford went to tighter bearing clearances.
I'm not saying this is completely true but its something to consider.

I believe the MPG comment more than that.
