switched 12v power under the hood??
 
i need to find a switched power source to signal an electric fan. it doesnt have to carry a load to run the fan just to signal it. i cant find one because my battery is dead....

can someone help me out please...?

If it's just being used to activate a relay, you could tap into the wire going to the positive side of the coil. It's controlled by the ignition switch. BUT, for a cooling fan, you really should have power available at all times, IMO. One of the benefits of an electric fan is it's ability to cool the engine while the engine is not running. As long as the fan t-stat is set correctly, this will yield you optimum results.

thanks Chris, you are right about being able to cool the car while off. i guess i just didnt want it to drain the battery because its on my daily driven summer car. so it will get real hot and when i park somwhere i dont want it to run for a long time. but ill probably do it the way you suggested.
