Do I need quad shocks?

I got new wheels and tires put on today and was forced to remove the quad shock to clear the tires. They are 15x8 Draglites with 5.5" backspacing and 255/60/15 tires. Other than reducing wheelhop, what is the purpose of the quad shock? Will the ride be greatly affected? I have skinnies on the front so the car is not a corner carver anyway.

Why didn't I think of that?

Thanks for your help.

My old '84 LX had quad shocks and that thing could lay nice dark patches of even consistancy for a good distance.....my GT hops all over the damn place because the quads are gone and i'm afraid every time i launch it because even shifting into second causes horrible wheel hop. I stole the quads off of my 84 before i sold it. There is a VERY good reason why ford installed those on the mustangs in '84. Before then they all had horrendous wheelhop even with the factory traction bars.
The quads from my 84 fit on my 89 and i can say that other than reducing HORRIBLE wheel hop going straight they also help keep you rear end planted accelerating around a corner because they dampen the spring better and the differential is less likely to shift around underneath the car.
If you have to remove them there's not much you can do.....but with no other traction devices it's a big step backward.

is there any susupention devices that could be installed so that you dont need the quads..my freind put some kind of traction kit of some kind on his stang and said cause of that he dosnt need the quads

YOU NEED QUADSHOCKS!

YOU NEED YOUR QUADS ON THERE, OR YOU'LL GET NO TRACTION AT ALL, SO WHAT IS THE POINT? WIDER TIRES, NO TRACTION? NOT A GOOD IDEA. THEY DO MAKE A KIT THAT SWAPS IN, AND IT IS THE EQUIVALENT OF QUAD SHOCKS. IT'S A BIT PRICEY, BUT YOU CAN FIND IT IN THE MAG.'S.:)

Calm down everyone...

I just flipped them around so that they would fit. Works fine. Wider tires and quad shocks... Everyone is happy.

Now that's using your noggin Bad89Stang. Just so you know, i wasn't by any means giving you sh/t or trying to be an @ss, in fact i was completely calm when i responded but going back now my wording was kind of odd. I'm glad you figured out how to run them still, it's definately worth it. Have fun :D,

Rick

The quad shocks are a band-aid and a bad one at that. I installed quads on my 82 only to take them off and re-install the slapper bars. My car din't wheelhop until I put the 8.8 and quads in, I put my slappers back on and ditched the quads and I had less hop. I had a set of subframes welded in and I have no more wheel hop.

Pretty much as soon as you upgrade your control arms the quads become unneccessary, they pretty much compensate for the oval bushings in the lower control arms of the 83 and newer cars and thats about it.

For some reason the automatics don't do bad without them but a 5speed sucks. But a way to fix it is to get a good set of control arms megabites, steeda, etc and they will fix the problem
