HELP! Tranny is gone.
 

My T5 just went. What are my options?
Should I get a rebuilt kit and do the work myself or trade the old for a rebuilt/new one?

Summer is coming and I really have to get out there.

I'd just scrap it and get a new one. I live by the philosophy "if it breaks, replace it with something better". Besides, depending on howbad your problem is, rebuilding it yourself could be a total pain and it might just be easier to slide on a new one.

If you have access to an arbor press, you can do the rebuild yourself. Its really not that bad and you'll feel great after you've just conquered the most complex mechanical part in your car. If you're up for a challenge, get the rebuild manual from Hanlon and give it a shot. If you get the manual and then still feel its beyond your capabilities then you can always take it to someone to have it rebuilt. As long as you haven't damaged the case, a rebuild is just as good as a new tranny.

I agree with Jeff. I have a Hanlon kit in my T-5 and it hasnt given a single problem yet. knock on wood. However 84_GT350 has a valid point depending on the problem it might be better to go with a new tranny.
