new heads need info
Can anyone tell me how good GT40P heads are, will they give me good performance? what would my hp be after these heads?
will someone pleas help me with this |
GT40p's is a good street head out of the box that can be ported for good performance. Going by your sig you are in need of a set of heads. I don't think your car even has the e7's on it. I can't say how much power they will give you, but you should be able to give the lt-1 guys a run for ther money. I don't know much about the p's, but you may want to ask about piston to valve clearance because of the cam and stock pistons you have.
I hope this helps, Wade |
I also heard that i need custom headers due to spark plug angle??? anyone know about this??? and would 425 for a complete pair be a good deal? its about 455 total with shipping???
|
Yes you do need special headers for the gt40p's. You can get them from central coast mustang pretty cheap.
|
gt40p heads are ok. theyre better than stock. they are cheap but usually come bare not assembled and require special headers. to me its wasted money since you cant really upgrade too much. it would be better to buy a set of windsor jr's which out perform gt 40 heads, are cheap and can be ported quite a bit if needed. and they dont require special anything.

Actually i was looking into them and they are not that great... like only 1.84 intake valve.
now i am deciding between 2 heads. im going to go with aluminum. 1 edelbrock performer RPM 190 intake valve 160 exh 2 trick flow 202 intake the reason for the trick flow with the bigger intake is because they dont require you to fly cut pistons. what do you guys think |
windsor heads heads have 1.94/1.60 valves, perform just as well as the others and have some better features. you dont need 202 valves. and youll save money. ask anyone whos used those heads and theyll tell you they work very well. just out of curiousity, what do you know about v.e. , and air requirement based on c.i. and rpm. and how to determine needed flow in cfm on intake and exhaust?

Depends on what you're looking for and what your future plans are. In T/S (now S/W), we've run deep into the elevens (11.1's@122) on UNPORTED GT-40Ps with the stock size (1.84/1.46) valves. People at my local track are amazed when I smoke their Vortech laden, aluminum headed, NOS spraying rides with my 306ci, normally aspirated .500" lift cam, shorty headered car.
My new motor should push 450hp with the GT-40Ps. Not too shabby compared to the AFR 165 headed motor that we just dyno'd at 427hp! Don't get me wrong, there are a bunch more heads out there that I'd love to own if I could run them in the class. But, given that we're held to factory cast iron heads I've elected to go with the P's. They have the potential to provide some fantastic performance. IMHO, the P's are a great little bolt on. I've got a friend with 40 pairs sitting in his basement. He'll sell them bare or assembled. You can check out my website if you're interested. |
first off juiceman i have no idea what you just asked.......i have a feeling that 2.02 might be too big for my setup.
jeff chambers, no future plans past heads. that is my last mod to my motor. after heads ill be happy. its a street car and i just wanna kill some lt1's but juice man give me some insight to what your talking about |
Windsor Jr's
HOLD THE PHONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tony, i have a set of very very very ported windsor jr's with the 1.94 intake and on a 347 i am making 431 RWHP. The problem you might have with to large a head is "velocity" when you slow down the fuel mixture you loose HP. BTW, I'll be selling my Jr's for AFR 205's once I get the "power adder" NOS:cool: Oh, and im shifting right around 7000 rpm. |
Oldschoolpony... please e mail me specifics on heads
Frankie_t51@hotmail.com please be as detailed as possible with a price |
tony, what im trying to say is that most people dont understand what i asked you and that question is what determines what heads intake and exhaust you use. a 302 with x amount of work will only consume x amount of air at any given rpm. v.e. is the measure of how well your motor uses the air and fuel to make power. it also takes a certain amount of air speed and gas speed to acheive near perfect v.e. (volumetric effeciency). so, by choosing a big head with alot of flow you are therefore reducing power and being counter productive to other work you have performed. the big craze now is big alluminum heads. unfortunately, noone realizes that theyre not going any faster than they use to. 13 years ago when mass air came out we were going high 12's with stock stuff. they didnt make all the stuff you have today. yet now, everyone spends money to go slow. jeff and others in his class go fast because theyre motors work well with the heads they use. spending alot of money on heads that are too big will only hurt performance and your wallet. if jeff can go 11's with small heads, intake and cam then why on earth do you need to get bigger stuff?
|
so looking at my sig... do you think i should get edelbrock performer rpm heads with 190 valves??
if not please give me what you think i should go with....and what hp i should be puttin out |
my opinion is to go with the windsor jrs. i had a similar setup to yours with stock ported heads and went a best of 12.89. my car was light at 2900 lbs . with heads you should go the same . realistically you will probably make around 300 hp when properly tuned. your motor doesnt require much more than stock now so why waste power and money. now im a big fan of windsor heads, and most other iron heads and for good reason. they have been performing well since the begining. its ultimately up to you if you want to spend the extra money for the pretty aluminum ones but you will not gain anything from it. and if anyone tries to say you save weight, well sure but it doesnt do anything for you .
|
thank you, now where do i find windsor jr. heads and how much do they go for....do they make them in aluminum? and how do they compare to edelbrock performer rpms?
|
Seems like you can pick up a pair Jr's from Summit or the likes assembled for around $700. I'd look into getting some from Keith Craft. They re-assemble the heads with better components and they can do any clean up or port work you want.
