New Engine Break-in

I have 499 miles on my '02 GT. Does anyone have any opinions on how many miles it takes to break the engine in?

500 is good,change your oil & filter & kick it:D :D

about 1500 before before you start to run it hard. about 2500-3000 before you really let her rip.

O and when your on the highway, vary your speed.

I read a few other places that 500 miles was enough. I think I will change the oil this weekend and forget it was ever new! :D

Marty, really? I've always heard 1500 or so miles(thats what some manuals say). Guess I was wrong.

Breaking it in

500 miles is a reasonable break-in but stay out of the red on the tach (don't mis-shift) at all costs.

I didn't beat on my then-brand-new '90 Mustang 5.0 until it had about 700 miles on it and it's still running great at 115,000.

Change the oil and filter again at 1000 miles, then every 2 or 3 thousand afterward. Invest in a magnetic drain plug, too. You'll be surprised how much metal you'll find on it in the first few changes.
